Hey. This internal memo doesnβt actually βauthorizeβ ICE to go into homes without a warrant. It instructs ICE agents to ignore decades of longstanding precedent that says the exact opposite. Precedent that goes back to some of the initial court rulings in our country. #fuckice #Minnesota

If a magic system has more rules than impacts on your characters daily life, youβre building lore. Not a world.
Iβll say it: a lot of people praise shitty world building because they prefer lore building to rich dynamism in fiction. They look at world building like building a wikiwalk rather than building a place to live.
I have lived through an era in which I had almost any information at my fingertips, where with savvy search skills I could find whatever I wanted, a facility with information Diderot would have wept to have.
I'm sixty. I remember before Google and easy reliable search. And now I have outlived it.
Iβm going to need everybody to stop trying to sell me Amazon prime day stuff. This is so much more desperate than previous years and to be honest, if Amazon wasnβt a turn off, this would be
Sending love to the Rokos Basilisk guys. This AI stuff has got to be doing a number on them.
So we're now 3 apologies deep and the only 2 people who have publicly resigned are folks who were not involved in anyway with the choice to use chatgpt.
The 1268 Conclave gets talked about in the new @tastinghistory.bsky.social episode
I care that people have a reasonable expectation of data privacy, including the knowledge of how their data may be used. As far as I know, people werenβt told that their entries into the volunteer form could be put into an AI/LLM algorithm. That matters.
One of the biggest things I donβt think Iβve seen discussed in the worldcon AI conversation is the encroachment on data privacy. I donβt care if anybody was excluded or included based on the results of an AI script. I care that participants werenβt told that one would be used.

Itβs 5 am. Have you called your senators yet?
So hear me out. Definite no to Canada as 51st state. But yes to MN as the 11th province????
Man. βMake America Healthy Againβ sure sounds like βI hate fat peopleβ when you put your listening ears on.
a bunch of posts about abortion pills vanished from Instagram. Meta put them back after we asked what was happening: www.nytimes.com/2025/01/23/t...
Not enough rich kids read Yertle the Turtle as kids and it shows
For the readers in the room, this is a really good time to read sci-fi and fantasy from indigenous authors. The idea that the world has ended before and that we still live is so prevalent in many of these stories and I think. Itβs good to let that inform us.

Things Iβm focusing on today: reading, making bread, my cats, my kid. Iβm not letting things steal my joy.
Just a quick reminder into the world that if you are not living by the best practices of BDSM, you are not actually practicing BDSM. Youβre practicing violence. #definitelyaproposofnothing #sff

My undergrad life was subsumed in Arendt, Heidegger and post-WW2 political philosophy. Starting even the prologue feels like being home.
Today, I turned an an audio version of Rahel Varnhagen, life of a Jewess, one of Hannah Arendts interrogations of personhood, Judaism and identity and a crucial precursor to her work on the human condition and totalitarianism. Itβs her first book though third published
