If you've ever thought that Rinnosuke felt like a Boys Love character, it's most likely because Rinnosuke's conception was a product of a meeting between ZUN and an editor of a Boys Love publishing company.

On the 26th of February 2026, ZUN held his monthly drunk radio stream. As usual, @tara_touhou collected some interesting quotes from the stream. I'll be translating some of them. I'll also include some moments that I watched on my own. A thread 🧵

ZUN : As long as I don't give permission to or join Dentsu (advertisement company), Touhou won't go mainstream. (2/2).

ZUN : There are a few things preventing Touhou from becoming mainstream. As long as I hold the rights, it won't become mainstream. (1/2)

ZUN : But it's not like the reason people are able to make good music is because they played the games. If you don't have fun playing the games, there's no point in forcing yourself to have fun.

BeatMARIO : Touhou has become mainstream.
ZUN : Like we said, only the fanworks. Once they become mainstream, they leave the original games behind. This is not a common occurrence.
