Happy New Year from the Trypanosome Cell Biology Unit! @pasteur.fr @inserm.fr
20 years in @pasteur.fr !
Daniel's interview!
Special thanks to our keynote lectures for fantastic talks! @micromotility.bsky.social @mick-lab.bsky.social
Many thanks to all participants to the CFC2025 meeting last week for having made it such a vibrant experience! So much exciting research on #cilia
Thank you to the organizers of the CFC meeting 2025 in Oberbronn! See you next year in Lyon! @club-cfc.bsky.social

Many thanks to @jcellsci.bsky.social for giving visibility to young scientists!
Finally out! Mass spec analysis of #trypanosome flagellar tubulins reveals some surprises including a new #glutamylation site on beta-tubulin! Many thanks to the teams of Julia Chamot-Rooke and Mariette Matondo!

On Friday, Daniel left us after more than 4 happy years in the lab @pasteur.fr and a great paper published today in @jcellsci.bsky.social as well as other contributions!
Many thanks for everything!

Wonderful time at our PIV departmental retreat @pasteur.fr, congratulations to @chrisgirardb.bsky.social and her dream team @fernando-batista.bsky.social, Francisco Martinez-Blazquez and Marcela Fuentes Carias for the organisation! And a great vision talk by Daniel π
Congratulations Parul for your brilliant PhD !
Daniel's paper is now published in @jcellsci.bsky.social, great experience with @reviewcommons.org π

Solving 25 years of frustration, Daniel AbbΓΌhl managed to tag trypanosome tubulin and to express it in an inducible manner, hence revealing flagellum assembly! A tour-de-force!
Preprint here:
www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
We propose a model where the new flagellum grows in a linear manner while the old one is locked but shrinks slightly, hence requiring unlocking and compensation after cell division, leading to such multicoloured flagella following induction/deinduction/reinduction of tagged tubulin π

How do #trypanosomes restrict #IFT to only 4 doublet microtubules? Two hypotheses were proposed (restriction @ the flagellum base or @ the injection) but in this preprint, Aline Alves reveals it is a third way! It all happens in the proximal portion of the flagellum!

We said goodbye to our lovely Aline who is heading back to Brazil after 4.5 happy years with us. Watch this space for her manuscripts coming soon!
Here we are! To celebrate our arrival, here is a #trypanosome expanded ~13 times & stained for tubulin, individual cortical #microtubules can be recognised, what was only achievable by EM before. Images: Christine Girard-Blanc & Thierry Blisnick. Many thanks to @centriolelab.bsky.social for training
