Thanks for the info! The Maybeck part of the property was in such disrepair; I figured the cost to bring things like stair railings up to current standards while also satisfying the preservationists was going to be so costly that the owner would just let it deteriorate until it got red-tagged.

When you listen to it with the drums taken out, you can hear that the song could have gone in any number of different directions and it's humbling to try to imagine being the person with the musical imagination to have thought up this drum part. Just playing it is hard but he brought vision, too.
