a world map with locations of extreme weather event studies by WWA in pink & yellow dots
Looking back to @wwattribution.bsky.social studies in 2025 showed again, in stark terms, how unfairly the consequences of human-induced climate change are distributed. The world does not have to be like this, we have a lot of agency to make it better. www.worldweatherattribution.org/unequal-evid...

Itβs a very Crary Christmas for our on-ice team in Antarctica!
After several weeks of weather delays preventing them getting out to our deep-field camp at Crary Ice Rise, on Christmas Eve the team received the best possible present β a Basler flight to Crary! Crary Christmas from SWAIS2C!

Our science team are preparing for when we have our first core on deck. Theyβve dug out a pit for cold storage of microbiology samples. The warm science container has been transformed into a lab, ready to X-ray cores and take sediment samples for microbiological analysis.

Drilling a 200m sediment core from the bedrock beneath 500m of Antarctic ice is a complex process, so we've broken it down step-by-step in this explainer. From melting snow in our flubbers through to filling our core barrels, what we're attempting 700km from the nearest base is no mean feat!

The on-icers are on the ice! The fourth and final group of our on-ice team have arrived in Antarctica for the season.
Theyβre an international bunch, coming from Germany, US, UK, and NZ.
Itβs exciting to have a full SWAIS2C contingent on continent!

Theyβve made it across the Ross Ice Shelf! Huge congrats to the Antarctica NZ traverse crew, for completing a 13-day journey to our drilling site at Crary Ice Rise. They towed sleds with fuel, equipment and supplies, to keep our deep-field camp cranking. Now it's time to set up camp!

The smiles say it all - they've finally made it to the ice! After an extended stay in Christchurch due to weather delays, followed by an 8hr boomerang back to Christchurch, the first of our science team have landed in Antarctica.

Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Letβs hope others follow suit.

I'm able to make this animation of how the ocean breathes in and out COβ because of data collected by NOAA scientists, data served at NOAA websites, and tools provided by NASA. All are under threat of being dismantled by the Trump administration.

It may feel as though we live in dark times, but here in the UK there are LOADS of science festivals celebrating ideas, sparking curiosity & sharing the latest research (for both adults & kids). Someone told me recently they didnβt know where to look, so I made a list. Here goesβ¦ [deep breath]:
