Research leave is well and truly over! Was back to it @durhamclassics.bsky.social today, kicking off a new term with Pliny, Epistulae II in Advanced Latin! And you know what, itβs so nice to be back!

Romeward Bound β€οΈ
The last 6 months have not been easy, but Iβm going Rome for a few weeks and something tells me that everything will get better as a result. A tra poco, cittΓ mia!
Itβs true! EpiDoc workshop coming to Durham in April 2026! Watch this space for further details.

More than anything, I am just delighted that you are looking out for fakes! It makes me so happy!!
This one is flummoxing me! It's not totally dodgy, but there's something off about it. My guess would be that the top inscription is genuine and that the bottom one was added later, but who knows when. It could also be a very well-executed fake! There will be hundreds of them out there deceiving us!
This is an important piece from a senior Holocaust scholar (who grew up in Israel and is an IDF veteran), and itβs important that itβs published in the NYT.

Thank you for coming! Iβm so pleased you got to see the work the @arcdurham.bsky.social students produced!
My lovely students from the Pompeii module are exhibiting their visual reconstruction projects today in @durhamclassics.bsky.social! Theyβve produced some excellent work and I am very proud of them.
