A few months ago I read @philipncohen.com's Citizen Scholar in proof. It's now available in print.
To restore public trust in expertise, professors can’t just profess—they need to engage. Citizen Scholar explores how contemporary academics can do this, and why they might choose to.
"AI" is fundamentally bad at social things, and language is social. Add to this that there's no profit incentive for language documentation and preservation, and you see that is a feel-good smoke screen. These companies do not care about marginalized people. They make money off of exploitation.
In academia & life, to write is to think.
And to learn to write, is to learn to think.
The evil (I use the word advisedly) "writing tools" now baked into operating systems on computers & phones, by supposedly helping us to write will make us forget how to think; or prevent us from learning how to.
