The small, switch everything units are best deployed when you want to maintain a lead. The switching forces isolation basketball often and more importantly, helps limit threes - which is how leads are lost.

Pelicans small lineup has allowed the Lakers to switch everything defensively, forcing Pelicans to play one on one basketball. Without Dejounte, Zion particularly has struggled getting down hill and there's no advantages being created
