Walked away from Omelas only to find that everywhere else was also Omelas. I dig fighting games, pinball, sumo, reading, and Oxford commas. Blocking gen AI whenever I see it.

Silverwolf In 1985, a mysterious group of women calling themselves the "Games Mistresses" released the first of a series of text adventure games. The story behind their creation is the wildest one you'll read to...

every 6 months or so I remember this & am compelled to repost it, one of the wildest stories from the strange days of the 1980s 8 bit computer scene

for those who have no clue about it please, treat yourself & dive in, I don't want to give too much away so just take our word that it's worth reading

Left: Minimal line art drawing of a cat that is enclosed in a pink rectangle. Label: Kitten is completely full of crimes

Right: the same cat art but twice the size. The same size rectangle covers only the bottom of the cat. Label: Adult cat contains the same amount of crimes but it does not dominate all of their behaviors

Oh man. I remember this game. I had a pirated version for my C64. I wouldn't say it was a good game, but it had a "stuff you might see spraypainted on the side of a van / metal band album cover" vibe I really dug. Formative.

The Reverse-Centaur’s Guide to Criticizing AI My speech for U Washington’s Neuroscience, AI and Society lecture series.

β€œAI is the asbestos in the walls of our technological society, stuffed there with wild abandon by a finance sector and tech monopolists run amok. We will be excavating it for a generation or more.”

Chilling but brilliant article, @doctorow.pluralistic.net

In regard to why I keep interacting with social media, I have come to a conclusion. I must be punishing myself for all of my past sins.

Isaiah The Wulf

Isaiah the Wulf apparently has a YouTube and Spotify channel for their music. www.youtube.com/channel/UC5K...

Seems to be art for an Album cover for an artist called Isaiah the Wulf for a song called Lay of the Land. At least as far as my reverse look-up can find.

the conversation's been had, the trials have been run, the project is over: fighting games are for a particular brand of pervert. they are not to be saved by some mythical silver bullet propelling them into the hearts and minds of the average "consumer" at the behest of the capitalists in our heads

Sorry I'm not more open-minded about LLMs, it's just some fucking maniacs shoveled out a bunch of useless bloatware featuring that technology, did not give me any chance to opt out, reorganized the entire economy around it, zeroed out gains made by green energy, and made it impossible to buy RAM

It’s important to remember that billionaires are parasites with a vested interest in persuading you they are predators.
