I think that's true and I ALSO think a lack of public domain expression keeps these things from running free as folklore, sort of a yin and yang of weird ways of relating to fictional people.

The only advertising I've *ever* paid for for my own work was some stuff on the Daily Tism last year, in the hope of expanding my audience demographics a bit. Other than that, every single listener came from word of mouth or because of some unprompted media mention (I don't do press releases either)
Aside from $100 spent on a Project Wonderful campaign back in my pre-Eruditorum days, Iβve never spent a cent on advertising. Iβve relied entirely on word of mouth. Itβs crucial for indie success in any medium.
Talking about it is literally the best way to support indie media besides your wallet.

Blumenthal after getting briefed on Iran: "We seem to be on a path toward deploying American troops on the ground in Iran to accomplish any of the potential objectives here. There's also the specter of active Russian aid to Iran putting in danger American lives ... China also may be assisting Iran"
i am somewhat inclined to think itβs less trump taking an interest in this than it is susie wiles recognizing an opportunity
Contingency plans for things that might go wrong are woke
do i think planners in the military and DOD anticipated this? yes. do i think hegseth listened to them? no.
this is one reason why the βtrump declares victory, goes homeβ theory of end game here never made sense to anyone outside of the cabinet
Jennifer Jacobs @JenniferJJacobs NEWS via @CBSNews : U.S. intelligence assets have begun to see indications Iran is taking steps to deploy mines in Strait of Hormuz shipping lane. Iran is using smaller crafts that can carry 2 to 3 mines each. While Iranβs mine stock isnβt publicly known, estimates over the years have ranged from roughly 2,000 to 6,000 naval mines of Iranian, Chinese and Russian-made variants, @JimLaPorta reports 2:13 PM Β· Mar 10, 2026 Β· 6,060 Views
Here we go
The mining is not extensive yet, with a few dozen having been laid in recent days, the sources said. But Iran still retains upward of 80% to 90% of its small boats and mine layers, one of the sources said, so its forces could feasibly lay hundreds of mines in the waterway.-CNN
Iran has begun laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz, the worldβs most important energy chokepoint that carries about one-fifth of all crude oil, according to two people familiar with US intelligence reporting on the issue.
why do i feel like the WH is gonna scream at CENTCOM until they make NAVCENT do something stupid and we get a Burke to eat a mine and then eat a Silkworm
look, thatβs just not a WARFIGHTER priority, weβre out here LETHALITYMAXXING we donβt have time to worry about some weakass shit like mine layers
the last ship to be a sunk by a mine in the north sea was Marmara in... 1960... 15 years after the end of hostilities
remember when MattyY was talking about how dems shouldn't talk about immigration
so, uh, how many disabled ships does it take to shut down the strait even if iran decided to hold onto to the [checks notes] more than 80% of their remaining mines
thinking about how the admin has so little of a clue that they floated the idea of seizing Kharg...
I'll just take a big sip of my diet coke and see what happened after the iraqis fucked with Kharg
If Iran has put out any mines in the Hormuz Strait, and we have no reports of them doing so, we want them removed, IMMEDIATELY! If for any reason mines were placed, and they are not removed forthwith, the Military consequences to Iran will be at a level never seen before. If, on the other hand, they remove what may have been placed, it will be a giant step in the right direction! President DONALD J. TRUMP
mr president i don't think this is going to be effective
before, or after they laid mines?
The IRGC "has the capability the deploy a 'gauntlet' of dispersed mine-laying craft, explosive-laden suicide boats and shore-based missile batteries. 'The oil pressure is going to hit a head sooner than we can remove the capabilities we want to move,' one source noted.β

Yeah...you don't get to bomb the shit out of a country and then go "Ok, we're even stevens now."
Ok I was wrong. Clearly AI is gaining sentience, this thing realized it was a Cybertruck and immediately tried to commit suicide from embarrassment
Republicans are using kids as a smokescreen for what Big Tech lobbyists want: a national surveillance program to harvest our data with zero protections for people and their privacy.
We must fight this dangerous expansion of surveillance technology.

If you can envision farm labor in a non-exploitative system, you're able to distinguish a thing as such from the system of power it's implemented in. So why not also do that with labor-saving technology, instead of just assuming that everyone who wants it must be envisioning it within capitalism?
