Victims of rape in UK to get free legal advice throughout criminal justice process
Lawyers will be available to help victims understand their rights and challenge unnecessary requests for personal information, the Ministry of Justice said
Rape victims deserve a justice system that pursues perpetrators, not one that feels like it is judging them.
We are introducing Independent Legal Advisors for rape victims, ensuring they have dedicated support and protection throughout the justice process.

A proud moment being sworn in as King’s Counsel in my role as Solicitor General. It meant a great deal to be sworn in by the Deputy Prime Minister, David Lammy, with Rachel Reeves by my side.
As Solicitor General, my main priority is our ambition to halve VAWG in a decade.

My thoughts are with the victim, who remains in a life-threatening condition, and his family. I am in touch with the police and being updated urgently.

CPS issues new guidance on ‘honour’-based and dowry abuse
Updated guidance from Crown Prosecution Service covers forms of spiritual and immigration abuse for first time
Speaking with survivors and campaigners has shown me the devastating impact honour‑based abuse takes.
I welcome new CPS guidance treating honour‑based abuse as a serious crime, and remain committed to halving violence against women and girls.

This HeartUnions Week, I’m proud to have backed the biggest upgrade in workers’ rights for generations.
When I was a lawyer, I fought for the rights of people who had been discriminated against at work. Labour is ensuring workers have fairness, dignity, and opportunity at work.

Israel must fully reopen all crossings into Gaza so vital international aid can reach those who need it.
The UK will continue to provide essential medical supplies and food, but far more is required.
And aid workers must be able to operate safely and freely on the ground.

'Labour is transforming the justice system to empower survivors' - LabourList
Labour is expanding victims’ right of review so rape survivors are heard, cases are scrutinised, and justice finally works for women.
Empowering survivors isn’t optional, it’s essential.
Labour is expanding the Victims’ Right of Review so victims’ voices are heard and their cases get the scrutiny they deserve.
As Solicitor General tackling VAWG will always be my top priority.
