I flew to Coachella to see them kick it off in 2006 and it was one of the most incredible concerts of my life, nobody had a clue what they were about to witness and the way they ramped up the stage design and lighting with each song had people screaming with delight. Got to see it again in Seattle.

The surprise at the end of Cabel's talk was a personal highlight of 12 years of running XOXO, a secret quietly hiding on stage for the entire festival. Nobody knew what was coming but @cabel.panic.com, @andymcmillan.com, me, and venue/event staff. It was a surprise even to all the other speakers.

I've seen videos of the indiscriminate use of tear gas on a large crowd that was clearly peaceful and filled with Portlanders of all ages, and well off the macadam facility. We banned tear gas for a reason. I join Councilor Green in calling for enforcement of our laws.

Events like yesterday bring us closer to this truth. What I saw with my eyes was thousands of people united in solidarity against this stain on our country, and then their children were assaulted with chemical weapons. That’s not something you move on from.
I was there, too, and recorded this as people left the scene.

Imagine how much the damage could have been offset if tech executives cared enough to have anticipated this very obvious progression and agreed on some standards for digital watermarking of generative content... It wouldn't have mitigated all the damage but it probably would have helped a ton.

At the end of the day, the Black Lives Matter era was about whether people should be killed in the street, and lots of people decided yeah and put those little blue flags on their cars. It spread to everyone because it stopped for no one.
