I will only marry a woman who is:
- At least 5'9"
- Always dressed in eveningwear
- Able to read my mind
- Daughter of the Fifth House
- Holder of the scared chalice of Rix
- Heir to the Holy Rings of Betazed

Challenge for those who are very confident that Claude is conscious: why do you have a slave
I went to one (1) Seattle Torrent game in December and now I would die for both Hilary Knight and Hannah Murphy

Both the Puritans and Huguenots are on my momβs side ~400 years ago and I only know the prominent stories, Iβm sure along the way they married people who came for approximately every other reason a Western European might emigrate.
- religious nuttery (Puritans, Huguenots)
- poverty
- poor agricultural management by absentee English landlords
A photo of a bunch of NASA research documents, with titles like "STRUCTURAL MARGINS OBSERVED IMMEDIATELY PRIOR TO EXCEEDANCE", "PRELIMINARY ANALYSIS OF UNEXPECTED WOBBLE IN A RIGIDLY NON-WOBBLING SYSTEM", "OBSERVED PERFORMANCE OF COMPONENTS KNOWN TO HAVE BEEN INSTALLED BACKWARDS", "COGNITIVE LOAD IMPLICATIONS OF ACRONYMS REFERRING TO OTHER ACRONYMS", "THRMAL CHARACTERISTICS OF MATERIALS DESCRIBED AS 'PROBABLY INFLAMMABLE'", "ON THE REPEATED SURVIVAL OF SYSTEMS NEVER INTENDED TO WORK", "THE EFFECT OF CLIPBOARD ON PERCEIVED AUTHORITY IN TEST ENVIRONMENTS", "MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF SUBSTANCES EXPOSED TO REPEATED MEETINGS", "ANOMALOUS RESULTS WHICH PERSIST DESPITE STRONG MANAGEMENT DISAPPROVAL", and "A PRELIMINARY ASSESSMENT OF THE MOON'S APPARENT DISINTEREST IN OUR ACTIVITIES"
Some terrifically titled papers from a discovered collection of NASA research documents found in a skip

Every social theory undergirding Trumpism has been broken on the steel of Minnesotan resolve. The multiracial community in Minneapolis was supposed to shatter. It did not. It held until Bovino was forced out of the Twin Cities with his long coat between his legs. The secret fear of the morally depraved is that virtue is actually common, and that theyβre the ones who are alone. In Minnesota, all of the ideological cornerstones of MAGA have been proved false at once. Minnesotans, not the armed thugs of ICE and the Border Patrol, are brave. Minnesotans have shown that their community is socially cohesiveβbecause of its diversity and not in spite of it. Minnesotans have found and loved one another in a world atomized by social media, where empty men have tried to fill their lonely soul with lies about their own inherent superiority. Minnesotans have preserved everything worthwhile about βWestern civilization,β while armed brutes try to tear it down by force.
Last week in Minnesota, I watched ordinary people risk their lives to protect their neighbors. In the process, they not only won a significantβthough not finalβvictory against authoritarianism, they proved virtually every MAGA social theory wrong. (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
There are places where Trump, as president, has broad freedom of action. And there are places where Trump, as president, has been able to act unilaterally because the main point of opposition, Congress (and SCOTUS), support his program. (1/?)
I saw The First Thousand Trees face out in the sci-fi section at Elliot Bay Books a few weeks ago, I should have taken a photo!
Do you see how an act is not, as young men think, like a rock that one picks up and throws, and it hits or misses, and that's the end of it. When that rock is lifted, the earth is lighter; the hand that bears it heavier.
Abuse of powerpoint comes as no surprise
and I thought, I can't believe you're telling on yourself in print like this.
When I read Lolita, the writing was brilliant but I could only handle being in that monster's head in small doses. My edition had an afterword from some dude like, "Isn't it amazing the way Humbert draws you in and then after you finish, you start to think, was he the bad guy??"
I extremely do not want to live in a Years of Lead country, itβs bad on many levels, murder is wrong. and yet few have done more to make that happen than this guy bsky.app/profile/pete...
βIβm against a politics of hygieneβ I say as I continue to cook in an ancient nonstick pan, teflon visibly crumbling into my food.
The thing is, protecting women from imaginary rapists lets you control women. If you were protecting them from real rapists you might also have to alter the behavior of men
No, I know this one. you put both of them in the rowboat together and then sink the rowboat halfway across the river.
The vorkosigan saga is good, you should read it!
it just, you know, pops in my head now and then, unprompted. no reason.
Been thinking a lot about one of my favorite quotes from Lois McMaster Bujold. "about cynicism...the universe's most supine moral position. Real comfortable. If nothing can be done, then you're not some kind of shit for not doing it, and you can lie there and stink to yourself in perfect peace."
Hell, I do see tiny flying dinosaurs every day, and I have bought two pairs of binoculars over the last couple of years in order to look at them better!
I have lived in walking distance of Seattleβs zoo for over a decade and go like, once a month. They have an animatronic dinosaur zone this summer and kids love it. If they had real T Rexes I would go every goddamn day.
One of the most important things Iβm taking away from my weekend at #PPP25 is the reminder that big victories are built out of and on top of an accumulation of small victories.
found the one reader you gained from the FdB post
"Healthy food" discourse only makes sense through a lens of class and social status. Being healthy is high status, so it's for the rich.
Cheap, accessible, filling food is popular with the poors, which means it can't be healthy. No program to make "healthy" food cheaper can fix that.
The only non-upsetting option I can come up with is chunks of broccoli stem
I'm glad it worked out!
An unfinished wood board with some scuffs and sun fading.
The side of the board, which has short shelf legs glued to it.
Sent a message! Hereβs some pics also
I recently replaced an Ikea-hack standing desk with a proper one, and I still have a shelf on legs I used for it. Total height including the board is 4.5 in, surface dimensions 15x28 in. The wood is unfinished and a bit battered, but sturdy and reliable. Would be happy to pass along.
