Republicans in Congress want to allow more mining and oil drilling on federal public lands, and they’ve recently turned to an obscure legislative maneuver to open areas for business.
Over the past year, GOP leaders have used an obscure law to push for mineral extraction on public lands while also attempting to reverse protections for a national monument in Utah. Only in the past year has the law ever been used to overrule public land management plans.
