Covering sessions daily at the Commission on the Status of Women this week, one question keeps coming up for me: How can responsible media better amplify the institutions trying to address global crises? Too often we are not meeting the moment β we are being entertained by it. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus & @DrTed...β’ 6h Global military expenditure just hit $2.7 trillion - in a single year. According to @UN estimates, ending world hunger by 2030 would require $93 billion annually. That means we spend almost 30 times more every year on killing each other than on making sure everyone eats.
This is Director of WHO. And thatβs exactly the point Iβm trying to make all day every day this week.
Iβve been making a list of things to remember when I cast my vote in November.
Itβs a long list.
It's just impossible to keep up with the stupidity of our government
Rapid Response 47 tweet with a screengrab of a Trump TS post about Larry Summers resigning from teaching appointments "over Epstein ties"
if i was the Trump rapid response dudebros I would simply not highlight people facing consequences for Epstein ties
I thought the Epstein files were a hoax and we needed to stop talking about themβ¦
Hey friends, please give this short piece by @milestaylor.bsky.social a read.
This is Trumpβs circus of souls (and soles) - grown men in clown shoes.

Apart from the moral repugnance, this is so revealing of how ignorant conservatives are about poverty. Poor people have to think about money ALL THE TIME. They worry constantly about what everything costs, how to substitute one purchase for another, what bill can be put off until payday, etc.
We are in an unnecessary war that the public doesnβt want, without a clear purpose or endgame.
How should the American people respond? Some thoughts... https://robertreich.substack.com/p/the-underlying-failure
You can have the best armed forces in the history of the world, but if you are an incompetent criminal without a plan, you can still lose a war, and rather quickly.
At first blush, it seems like a good idea. It would help consumers in the short term. But
1. It also helps Trump and republicans who would take credit
2. Tax holidays are often windfalls for oil companies
3. Doesnβt address the core issue
4. We need that tax revenue
What do you think?
The DNC is suing the Trump administration for refusing to answer a simple question, βare you planning to put armed agents or military at polling places?β They submitted 11 FOIA requests and have gotten zero answers.
NEW: The Iranian drone strike that killed 6 U.S. troops in Kuwait at the start of the war was far more devastating than previously disclosed.
Dozens suffered traumatic brain injuries, burns, and shrapnel wounds. At least one required an amputation. More than 30 remain hospitalized. (CBS News)
Sen. Murray: "I'm just sickened by this. To go into this war unprepared, to use outdated data, and to have this horrific thing happen where children were killed in a school sends a horrible message to those that are in a war with us and to our own constituents about what America's values are."
Sign of cognitive decline #3,007:
Loss of filter for inappropriate languge.
Yep. Thatβs why I record it. So I can fast forward through the propaganda
Since Trumpβs election:
π΅ Democrats have flipped 28 state legislative seats
π΄ Republicans have flipped 0
Our analysis, which shows that more women nearly bled to death during miscarriage after Texas banned abortion, adds to a growing body of reporting revealing that maternal outcomes have gotten worse under bans.

Trump launched military strikes on Iran with no plan for the fallout, and Americans are paying on average $0.56 per gallon more at the pump.
Here are the facts Trump hopes you never see:
Fmr Trump spokesman: "Let's be consistent."
BTC: "I am being consistent-- that's the problem. I watched Trump on the campaign trail disparage all these other politicians who engaged in wars in the Middle East. And yet here we are. We have dead Americans, rising oil prices, and a war with no plan."
Tweeting hateful garbage doesn't magically make you an Americanβor a real Christian.
Christian Nationalists are unable to assimilate; they all have to go to hell. (And quickly.)
They hate me because I fight. They attack me because I win.
I will do everything I can to protect free and fair elections. I will never back down.
Steve Witkoff on Hannity's show makes a case that Trump last summer both obliterated but also didn't obliterate Iran's nuclear program
I'm so goddamn sick of this drunken, smarmy loser. GO AWAY! STFU!
We shut down USAID but:

Schatz: We donβt know for sure, but the likely bombing of an elementary school with one of our Tomahawk missiles is not a one-off mistake. It is the result of a change in policy so that the United States has way looser rules of engagement β way more tolerance for civilian harm.
While Trump launches us into a new forever war, heβs quietly preparing to take over our elections at home and rig the midterms in his favor.
He knows he canβt win on the merits, so heβs preparing to cheat. We wonβt let him get away with it.
We're spending $1 billion per day on war as millions of working people struggle to get by.
Meanwhile, America's ultra-rich have never been richer.
As long as you donβt need gas, groceries, affordable healthcare, retirement savings or constitutional rights, things arenβt so bad.
