Nice catch from @mainenewsroom.com (also spotted by @jamesxmyall.bsky.social): A federal agent told Maine cops they were leaving the state -- because of weather -- a FULL WEEK before Susan Collins implied she was responsible for their exit.
Typical self-aggrandizing Collins maneuver. #MEpolitics
UPDATE: A tense, day-long standoff outside a South Burlington house ended Wednesday night with federal immigration agents removing three people inside and a series of violent clashes between police and hundreds of activists who tried to impede the apprehension.

New York Times: Trump reiterated that he would not sign new bills into law until his more expansive version of the Save America Act passes. βIβm for not approving anything, Iβm not approving anything until this isβ passed, he said. Then, Trump suggested the end goal of the bill is to ensure Republicans win in November and in future elections. βItβll guarantee the midterms,β he told House Republicans. βIf you donβt get it, big trouble, my opinion.β
Trump suggests the vote suppression bill Susan Collins supports -- so fervently that she's been highlighting it as a key distinction with her Dem rivals in her fundraising -- would guarantee a GOP victory in November.
Sort of gives away the game. Collins complicit up to her eyeballs. #MEpolitisc

Rockland, ME today like every Saturday for the past year plus. Shenna Bellows spoke briefly.
Trumpβs Iran War is not going to be ending anytime soon. And calling for a country to surrender unconditionally means it is unarguably a war that requires a declaration of war.
CentralMaine.com letter to the editor: We need to persuade Sen. Susan Collins to change her vote on the SAVE Act, or whichever euphemistic name the Republicans use. The only rational vote is a vote against it. Collins has recently complained about being unfairly criticized for not standing up for the people of Maine. Her claim is that she always stands up for the people of Maine. If Collins votes for SAVE, she will be blatantly disenfranchising thousands of her constituents. The provisions stated clearly in this bills will make it much harder for elderly people to register and vote. It will cause many women to possibly not be able to vote. Collins may be able to rationalize that this is not the point or intent of the proposals. Their true message and intent, however, is clear to anyone who can read. This is a solution in search of a problem. One would have to be brain dead to think or imply that there is any need, in Maine or the USA, to make our elections more secure. To suggest that there is is an outrageous insult to all the dedicated people who do the important work of making our elections safe, secure and correct. Collinsβ constituents voted overwhelmingly against most of the provisions of the SAVE Act last year. The senator should be ashamed of the implications of a βYesβ vote. Don Bessey Old Orchard Beach
Susan Collins's support for the vote suppression SAVE Act seems like a radicalizing event for a bunch of folks:
If she's lying about this -- which they know she is -- what else is she lying about? And what does that say about who she is at her core? #MEpolitics
Wow did something happen in the US in January 2025?
CentralMaine.com letter to the editor headline: A vote for Susan Collins is a vote for Trump
More and more people are saying it. #MEpolitics
Nancy Youssef tweet: The preliminary Pentagon cost estimate of the war in Iran is $1 billion a day, a congressional official told me.
We're spending more EACH DAY on Susan Collins and Donald Trump's deadly war of choice than Collins procured in earmarks over the last SEVERAL YEARS.
Worth thinking about the next time Maine press runs a warmed over press release about the money Collins is supposedly bringing home. #MEpolitics
βI oppose the war but I voted to fund it because I had no choiceβ will be the talking point of too many.
Sam Stein tweet: Susan Collins comes out against the War Powers resolution: "Passing this resolution now would send the wrong message to Iran and to our troops. At this juncture, providing unequivocal support to our service members is critically important, as is ongoing consultation by the Administration with Congress.β
There's no limiting condition to this bonkers logic.
All Trump has to do is bomb somewhere else and Susan Collins will say, 'Welp, we have to go along because not going along would send the wrong message.'
Utter madness. #MEpolitics
Trumpβs Big Beautiful Disaster.
They call the Department of Defense the Department of War, but then say their war isnβt a war because itβs preemptively defensive.
This is the post Iβve been waiting for from a Democrat.
Portland Press Herald headline: Vote for SAVE shows us Sen. Collins is not a moderate voice | Letter
Bangor Daily News letter: In November, Mainers voted on whether to require voter ID at the polls. Of those who voted, 64% said no to voter ID. Yet, Sen. Susan Collins apparently thinks she knows better than her constituents and says she will vote yes on requiring voter ID at the polls. For over 100 years, it has been illegal for non-U.S. citizens to vote in state and federal elections. In fact, the number of non-citizens who vote is vanishingly small. What the SAVE America Act will do is make it harder for citizens to vote. For instance, military families who, in service to our country, often move from place to place will have an additional burden each time they register in a new locale. Women who change their name after marriage will have a new hurdle as their birth certificate name wonβt match their married name. People of color who are much less likely to have a passport will be harmed by this new law.
A surprising amount of pushback on Maine letters pages and in opinion columns to Susan Collins's support for -- and lies about -- the SAVE Act.
Maine has one of the highest rates of voting participation in the US. That might have something to do with it. #MEpolitics
Great week for the military industrial complex- their executives, principal investors, and stockholders. Lots of people about to make many billions from US taxpayers on Trumpβs Iran bombings, which are costing us a fortune every single day.
SRO at the Knox County Democratic Caucus today.
Nearly 300 turned out in Rockland yesterday.
Either oblivious to the actual requirements in the text of the bill or obfuscating, Sen. Collins recently defended her support of the SAVE Act by minimizing its impact, stating: βHaving people provide an ID at the polls, just as they have to do before boarding an airplane, checking into a hotel, or buying an alcoholic beverage, is a simple reform that will improve the security of our federal elections and will help give people more confidence in the results.β I donβt know what hotels Sen. Collins is staying at, but Iβve never stayed in one that requires my birth certificate or passport. I use my driverβs license to buy alcohol or fly (again, not an acceptable form of ID in the SAVE Act). Importantly, unlike voting, none of the activities Sen. Collins cites are rights protected by the Constitution. Any federal laws pertaining to voting should be protective of that right, not restrictive. And itβs disingenuous to suggest that the SAVE Act is about protecting election integrity. Ironically, the president of the United States has been attempting since 2020 to call election integrity into question, but his numerous lawsuits have only succeeded in proving that there is no widespread voter fraud in this country. Reasonable people can and should debate federal policy, but the SAVE Act is a solution in search of a problem and Mainers have just months ago expressed a clear rejection of barriers to voting. This isnβt about partisanship. Itβs about listening. Sen. Collins is up for reelection this year. Full disclosure, I voted for Senator Collins in my first election nearly 30 years ago. It seems that she has been in the Senate for so long that she has forgotten who she represents. As Congress considers changes to federal voting law, I hope the Maine delegation remembers that democracy works best when the peopleβs voice is respected.
There's more immediately dire stuff going on...but let's not lose sight of the fact that Susan Collins is lying about the SAVE Act -- out of loyalty to MAGA, because she fears how women will vote in November or due to some combination of the two. tinyurl.com/yp65kte5 #MEpolitics
So weβre just going to spend billions in bombs, kill the Ayatollah, temporarily degrade their military, then walk away and hope they learned their lesson? Thatβs the plan?
