The hearing got bogged down on who can testify about the Peace and Friendship Treaty of 1752 as an expert. The judge granted MRAβs request to adjourn the hearing so they can file the proper paperwork. The hearing resumes on Sept. 24/25z
Iβm in Amherst Provincial Court today covering a hearing involving two Indigenous men from N.B. charged with cannabis offences. The two men want the Micmac Rights Association to represent them @ trial. The federal crown opposes that based on section 801 of the Criminal Code which limits that.
I will be part of this symposium on local journalism in the Maritimes. Check out the website for more information and to register bringbacklocalnews.ca

Two items worth noting from today's @halifaxexaminer.ca's Morning File:
1. ANSMC's "rebuke" to NS Premier over legislation to remove bans on fracking and uranium mining and exploration in Miβkmaβki
2. Mi'kmaw artist Wolf Castle among artists who have pulled out of this year's ECMAs.
I reached out to all 20 First Nations that were issued DFO elver eel licences for comment. So far, only two have replied. One FN forwarded me a letter it sent to DFO on Mar. 1/25. Another FN granted my request for an interview. A tribal council stated it can't comment until next week.
8. A DFO official stated that these First Nations have been issued licenses but there are no signed agreements between those First Nations and DFO regarding the elver eel fishery.
7. DFO stated that fishers with these First Nations will need to provide conservation officers with a copy of the license issued to their respective First Nation and a piece of identification to prove their fishing is authorized by DFO.
6. Other First Nations in NS: Membertou, Wagmatcook, Millbrook and Sipekne'katik
5. Other First Nations in NB: Fort Folly and Peskotomuhkati Nation in Skutik
4. KMKNO: Acadia, Annapolis Valley, Bear River, Glooscap, Eskasoni, Pictou Landing, We'koqma'q and Potlotek
3. Wolastoqey Nation: Madawaska, Tobique, Woodstock, Kingsclear, St. Mary's and Oromocto.
2. 20 First Nations in NB and NS have been issued elver eel licences. DFO grouped those First Nations in these categories.
1. DFO held a media technical briefing this morning about the upcoming 2025 Elver Eel Fishery. Here's what I noted from that briefing:
Here's a recent interview I did with CBC NS regarding the formation of the Indigenous Media Association of Canada @indigenousmac.bsky.social www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
Welcome to Bluesky @knockc.bsky.social ππ
Maddow: If you don't have Bluesky yet, I recommend it. It is a social media network that doesn't make me want to stab myself in the eye with a rusty fork
Just realized it's been probably two weeks since I've referred to Trump as a convicted felon or court-declared sexual assaulter. So much to remember!
As always: Follow the money. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/12/b...
It's important to remember on days like today that Trump is completely out of his tiny little mind
Indigenous Media Association of Canada formed by five veteran media professionals
βͺI've been following @lookner.bsky.social on Agenda Free TV on YouTube for breaking news coverage ever since I discovered the channel while looking for updates on the Tantallon fires back in May 2023. www.youtube.com/@AgendaFreeTV
Iβm just begging you: Before you write your post about why the media isnβt covering something, *Google it* and look at the βnewsβ tab. Please.

Folks forget that unions made gains not through polite negotiations but through mass resistance to state violence. And why have labour organizers and workers been willing to risk incarceration, beatings, even death? Because that's what workers face AT WORK ANYWAY.
