rubber ducky with Anti Vax Quack sign
Alas, an inflatable cassowary was not available for #SUFS.
This rubber ducky’s too cute 😒. Folks, come see it on the National Mall if you’re in the DC area!

An offshore drilling push in Alaska meant to showcase the Trump era drive for more oil and gas drew a blank. A federal auction for drilling rights on more than 1 million acres in Cook Inlet ended this week without a single bid, undercutting claims the industry is eager to explore there. (NYT)

NC early voting pro tip: If you are an NC registered voter but have moved WITHIN your county of registration but not yet updated your address, you can EASILY do this at early voting check-in. If you wait until primary day March 3 to do this, it may require a time consuming provisional ballot. #ncpol
Safe travels!
Pic of Jalen Chatfield who plays defense for the Carolina Hurricanes and Trisha Castranio getting a jersey signed.
Thank you Jalen Chatfield!! Great interview for 99.9 The Fan with Mike Maniscalco and the crowd at The Local for Canes Corner
This is immoral.
Trump officials gutted USAID and cut off food aid to refugees. Clinics closed. Warnings poured in and were ignored. Rations collapsed. Children starved to death.
👉🏾Agency staffers even celebrated the cuts with a sheet cake while lifesaving programs were being shut down.👈🏾
AGU mourns the passing of Michael McElroy, a towering figure in atmospheric and climate science.
His six decades of research helped shape global environmental policy and inspired generations of scientists.
His legacy will endure.

A must read about how North Carolina Republicans targeted college students and how they are fighting back. You will be glad you read it. www.democracydocket.com/analysis/nor...
continued DHS snafus and incompetent leadership have destroyed morale at the agency and lowered its standing among the general public. This will encourage more reporting and leaks that will paint DHS in the worst light possible —which will in turn further lower DHS’ political standing further.

No surprise, NC’s Republican-controlled legislature & Trump have worked hand-in-hand to loosen or eliminate regulations safeguarding our air and water. Now corporations are freely dumping toxic waste into NC’s water. Vote for leaders who care!

I audibly gasped at this shortsighted move. We have failed to help the public understand that health isn't an individual issue, that you can't build a wall to keep disease out, and that community health is key to individual well-being. We see this with vaccination and we see it here. 💔
Bring your kids to work day 🥹
Red protest-style graphic with bold white text reading “Scientists Against ICE.” Below, rows of black human silhouettes stand holding hands. Centered is the Stand Up for Science logo, followed by text: “Calls for a General Strike Jan 23, 2026, Minnesota.” Black starburst shapes frame the sides. Bottom text reads: “Mobilize the fight for science and democracy.”
ICE’s actions tear families apart, intimidate communities, & undermine the conditions that make education, research, healthcare, & public trust possible.
We’re calling on scientists to join the general anti-ICE strike in Minnesota on January 23rd.
How sad is this? The CDC closed its FOIA office, so this story could only be published because a Danish journalist provided Rolling Stone with the documents, after obtaining them through a freedom of information request to the University of Southern Denmark
