One way to encourage people to remember your late father is to write a brutally honest obituary they will never forget. Charles Boehm did just that.

The first eight months of this year have been quite a ride, donβt you think?
I drafted an experimental letter this week. Had to get it out of my system.
In this week's blog, a quick list of some areas in which humans are making progress in protecting ourselves and our planet. Also a reflection by Carl Sagan that's worth rereading.
My latest: a postcard from farm country. It's about a motorcycle, an antiques shop and a calf. tinyurl.com/3s6p9fy5
The extent and speed of this revolution is astounding. The economics of renewables may be the best environmental card we have. Itβs working.
A few days ago, my wife and I packed a couple of sports bags on my motorcycle and we rode the coastal circle route in British Columbia. Between old growth forests, inlets, totem poles and good friends, my trepidations melted away. tinyurl.com/52e9w6u5

The Renaissance wasn't just about beautiful works of art. It was also about finding a way to take the itch out of wool and for rich people to avoid eternal damnation. History is in the details. Some notes in my post from listening to historians: tinyurl.com/2v2e3m9v

One of the first to elevate comics to the level of literary art was illustrator Hugo Pratt, who created graphic historical novels featuring an independent-minded sailor called Corto Maltese. I explore Prattβs legacy and artistry here: tinyurl.com/5pyamf9d

Everyone suffers in one way or another. If we could overcome mental distress, would we not live better? A walk through a Buddhist temple offers a way to change our perspective and deal with the messy parts of life.

An oasis of tranquillity: the International Buddhist Temple in Richmond, BC, is a special place. I was riding my motorbike in the area and stopped for a visit. It's an incredible complex that inspires meditation and serenity. Something that resonated: "Feelings are just visitors; let them go."
After I received some comments on a photo I posted here about a week ago, I thought I would describe what it's like to ride this Italian bike.

Yes, some are big models. Your friend must have been an experienced rider, as managing the bike's weight would also have been a factor. Luckily, my V7 seat is low to the ground.
This is my 2019 Moto Guzzi V7. One word sums up this bike: character. Every time I ride it, it's like having a conversation with a person.

If we focus on even little solutions, then we can make a contribution to the health of the planet. Data scientist Hannah Ritchie was depressed about the state of the environment. Then she saw how Swedish statistician Hans Rosling looked at data with a new perspective and her outlook changed.
Here's a brilliant cover illustration. May be a collectible item some day.
