Definitely handled that news like a boomer...
What are you doing Thursday Nov 13? This panel on survey methods for measuring "rare traits" seems v. important especially if we think small numbers of people sometimes have outsize influence on politics.
The speakers appear to be Bluesky-less, but I'll tag the moderator @mattgraham.bsky.social!
When I teach intro, I show this old news segment where someone interviews Harlow about these studies. I can just hear his voice saying "Look at the grad student. He's on the cloth mentor and he'll stay on the cloth mentor!"
Your post was a smile I needed

I see fame and fortune in your future! You should think of writing a book and making a movie or something. This could be big
But did you get IRB approval?
And what about during the 2 hour siesta that followed? No bad dreams about those unanswered emails?
Looks like you've got the makings to open a themed ice cream shop!
Congrats!
Yeah, the paper @paolopalma.bsky.social linked to is the only one I know looking at representativeness/generalizability. For US participants though, the profile is pretty similar to other crowdsourcing sites
I'm excited to be a part of this event, but I also honestly just wanna float around and talk to all the other people at these mentoring tables! π
Are you attending SPSP in person this year and 0-6 years post-PhD?
If so, make sure to sign up for the SPSP 2024 Early Career Mentoring Tables on Friday! #SPSP2024 @spspnews.bsky.social

That is what I have been doing too, but it is slow. I saw something floating around where you could use a plug in to find people you followed on X who are also on here, but without bookmarks I lost it
I looked long and hard for this, thinking I was missing something. Hope they bring that feature along
I'm writing something to show students how to conduct data screening (odd-even consistency, longest string, etc). Doing so has clarified why few people do these checks. They're hard, confusing, and often subjective. Curious if people have methods they like beyond attention checks and what they are?
