The humiliation isn't only that they're so lacking in personal dignity that they'll wear shoes that don't fit because they're afraid of displeasing the boss. The last time a President served nonconsecutive terms and reached his sixth year midterm - Grover Cleveland in 1894 - the President's party lost 105 House seats, 7 Governorships and 4 Senate seats (Senate seats were decided by state legislatures back then)

Basically the entire theory of not acting like a liar, bully, monster etc, aside from one's moral committments is that over time, acting like that makes people not want to interact with you or do business with you, etc... Trump's entire life theory is: what if you can get away with it forever?
