People of all ages and abilities walk, cycle, drive, and ride public transportation along the low-traffic streets of Bilbao, which are lined with buildings, trees, bike infrastructure, and prominent 30 km/h speed limit signage and road markings.

Thanks to Bilbao, the debate is shifting on urban speed limits. Once seen as radical, 30 km/h policies are now being adopted across Europe, simultaneously boosting health, safety, livability and efficiency; without crippling mobility. To the contrary, as slower traffic can often mean a faster city.π
Ditto, small variations.
A weekend finding time to walk, good coffee, Ceramics Fair, Italian food, read @bencoates1.bsky.socialβs Why the Dutch are Different. Now time to hop on a stationary bike in lieu of the plan A outdoors cycle with the local club @yorkrouleurs.bsky.social Hopefully next time!

With gas prices soaring, some people might search for cheaper transportation options. In many cites, a bicycle is a cheap and easy way to get around gas free. Give it a try.
So much that could be said on the 4th anniversary of the full scale invasion, but it all just boils down to the ultimate admiration for Ukrainians who have endured so much, fought so hard and deserve victory, peace and prosperity. Slava Ukraini!
Does have to be Calais? St Malo is a nice Breton port we got to on a ferry from Portsmouth and then you get to travel via Bretagne which is awesome. Havenβt gotten much beyond it so canβt give tips for further South but there must be awesome places to stop on the Loire Valley, Bordeaux, Carcassonne
I love the way afternoon light seems to make the reed heads glow, but capturing that on photo? I keep trying ... but somehow no #photograph quite matches reality! This is yesterday's attempt at the wonderful @RSPBConwy #NaturePhotography
Congratulations Switzerland, GB and Canada on bronze, silver and gold in the curling! You have kept us all utterly entranced. Thank you.
Iβve completed my #RideInUnity ride ahead of time, hope you have a good one tomorrow, @nickhickman.bsky.social !
I sometimes despair that the camera can never really capture just how amazing the natural world can be. But sometimes, just sometimes, the winter light hits those reeds and all those reflections pop... #birds #birdphotography #birding #photooftheday #photography #NatureIsAmazing
Iβll do my Ride in Unity ahead of time, tonight. #WeRideinUnity
What a great plan @nickhickman.bsky.social
Sad I canβt make the time, but Iβll join in spirit, We Ride in Unity!
Went to my local library this morning to do a bit of research for my current book project and my goodness such a life-affirming space! There was an adult being taught to read on the next table, children enjoying story time, countless people taking out books. So grateful for our libraries β€οΈ

Quickly telling someone youβve liked something theyβve done (e.g. telling a writer you like their writing, or a researcher you like their research, or a teacher you like their teaching) has a phenomenally high effort-to-impact ratio.
Why TF would you βgive Reform a goβ?
Yes. They represent change. But not good change. Not the change people want.
This lot would torch everything we value and rely upon (NHS, public services, our rights, protectionsβ¦)
in an absolute frenzy of corruption, prejudice and uselessness.
FFS. Please donβt.

Photo of a man wearing spandex leggings, a cycling top, helmet, and carrying a backpack and gloves posing with a mountain bike. It appears the man may have been participating in a race or event, because there's a paper sign, unreadable from this angle, affixed to the bike handlebars.

This image is a vintage photochrom print of the historic Beggar's Bridge in Glaisdale, North Yorkshire. The bridge spans the River Esk and is a notable local landmark. It was built in 1619 by Thomas Ferris, a wealthy merchant who, according to legend, was once a poor farmer prevented from crossing the river by a flood. The structure is a 17th-century, single-arched packhorse bridge. It holds a Grade II* listed building status and is also a Scheduled Monument
A little Sunday morning romance. The Beggars Bridge at Glaisdale. The bridge is the centre of the wonderfully romantic legend of Thomas Ferris, a poor man who had been denounced as a beggar by the local squire. Thomas was in love with the squireβs daughter Agnes Richardson. Before Thomas 1/3
If you see me reposting bike/urbanism stuff today, it's not because I'm ignoring the obvious, it's because I have to have momentary distraction from it.
This image shows a replica of the historic steam locomotive, Locomotion No. 1, pulling a train on a railway line. The original locomotive hauled the first train on the line on September 27, 1825.
