There was a German in valet parking. A Belgian and a Swiss at odds over vol-au-vents in the kitchen. A small contingent of African spies (Senegal, Cote d'Ivoire, Gabon) on the janitorial staff, relatively careless about Francophone eavesdroppers. She spotted a very young and nervous Turkmen agent shoving a dead-drop spike into the eye of a gaudy reindeer statue at Christmastime, and duly stole it, learning his real name (Kasymguly) and workname (Kevin) in the process. The waitstaff had a Russian agent named Vladimir and a Ukrainian agent named Volodymyr and they'd nearly killed each other in the west parking lot one night. The Polish agent Wtodzimierz, who was considerably older and world-weary, smoked a cigarette, watched them brawl, and predicted they'd both be fired for coming to work with visible bruises. He was right, which was a pity; Volodymyr had been very handsome indeed. They were replaced, in due time, by Dmitri and Dmytro, at which point she began to wonder if Kyiv and Moscow were being deliberate about all this for their own inscrutable reasons.

The author looks wistfully skyward and says “it was a small scene in Brooklyn … we have the same birthday actually!”

While the author stews in nostalgia, blissfully ignorant, the teens give each other a look. One of the teens says “oh my God…”

The teen follows up with “Mitski is OLD!” A spike from the word balloon punctures through the author’s glasses into her eye.

starting a thread of NPC names I invented that made my D&D party so mad they yelled at me

a bunch of drawn diagrams of hand stretches. the text at the top reads MAKE TIME TO STRETCH! it shows wrist extensions and flexions, with the arm straight out and hand palm out with the hand gently stretched up and down. the same stretches with the hand in a fist. the same stretch but with the palm against a wall. a stretch of pressing your palms together with wrists parallel to the ground and slowly lowering the heels of the palms. and a gentle shaking out of the hands.

since this will always be circulating, i might as well be the first one to put it here: the stretch tips i made many years ago… remember to stop and stretch and take care of your hands! be mindful of your work time & listen to your body.
