Who are the neighbours that we will love?
Will we be the neighbours Jesus calls us to be?
How would Jesus love?
Letβs try that.

Letβs try that.
The moment Christians start to focus on defending their rights, they begin to forget that they've supposedly died to those rights.
The evils of Christian Nationalism continue to find their foothold in Canadian churches.
They recruit others with fear, anger, hatred, & the pursuit of power.
While Jesus calls us to love our enemies, turn the other cheek, deny ourselves, & take up our crosses.
Apparently some π¨π¦ pastors are in a tizzy about a government bill (C-9).
Theyβre sending around inflammatory emails to other churches about imminent & existential threats.
But there are no imminent nor existential threats to the narrow way of Jesus.
That the power of God's love, peace, and mercy can not only free the oppressed from their oppression, but that it also can free the oppressors of being oppressors.
Come Lord Jesus.
In a time of polarization, of unrest, of fear, of hate, of bigotry, of violence, of death... I find great comfort in the cross and the resurrection.
That even in death, God can surprise us with life.
I guess for me follower of X implies an agreed upon action that can be measured.
If one follows X, then one will do X things.
Actions then tell the truth.
But actions always tell the truth anyways.
I differentiate between βChristianityβ and actively following Jesus.
Iβd prefer for them to mean the same thing, but that just hasnβt been historically true.
Happy Mar10 Day to those who celebrate.
(& when we do confront it, we find people leaving to go to a different church that more fits their preferences)
We do not confront the evils of consumerism nearly enough in our churches.
And our churches far too often disciple people into a baptized-consumerism that gives us this lukewarm warm version of Christianity that neglects to love our neighbours as ourselves.

But I also think we should find the βgood lifeβ of the world challenged by what Jesus tells us is the βgood lifeβ of His Kingdom.
Have I amassed too much for myself?
Have I made comfort (& future comfort) into an idol?
What does living as a foreigner (ambassador for Jesus) in my land look like?
I think the way of Jesus is always difficult, because self-denial is difficult.
But I think that we can prayerfully follow the leading of the Holy Spirit as we discern what it means to follow Jesus where we are with what we haveβrecognizing that all we have belongs to God.
Following Jesus means denying ourselves.
Following Jesus means picking up our crosses.
Following Jesus means actually following Jesus in how we live & love.
Iβll take it further. If what they do or say is in Christβs name, and those actions do not look or sound like him; then they are taking the Lordβs name in vain.
If someone says or does things claiming it to be Christian or Christ-like, yet it doesn't look or sound like Jesus, then they are not following Jesus.
Our actions in our lives will tell the truth about what we truly believe & who we are truly following.
Iβd be curious to hear what you think of the take I give in the message!
Godβs plan is no wars.
Where the tools machinations of war are entirely dismantled & repurposed into tools of cultivation & new life.
βLet us pray together
for the roar of bombs to cease,
weapons to fall silent,
& space to open for dialogue,
in which people's voices may be heard.β
Pope Leo XIV
Good stuff here!
Thanks!
In times like these we preach through Exodusβ¦
Hereβs my message from last week is on one of this strange concept that comes up: God hardening Pharaohβs β€οΈ
Whatβs up with that?

For the followers of Jesus, wars are never holy.
What might a healthy, growing church community look like?
If Christianity is to have anything to do with Christ, then it must look like Jesus.
The followers of Jesus are to be like Jesus.
Following Jesus means actually following Jesusβin how we live, in how we talk, in how we act, in how we love.
"Blessed are the peacemakers"
Jesus
If anyone says that a war is ordained by God
They are lying
Following Jesus isnβt simply about believing the right thingsβitβs about actually living out His love in such a way that our neighbours experience us as a blessing.
Following Jesus looks like lovingkindess.
It looks like peace & peacemaking.
It looks like grace.
It looks like mercy.
It looks like loving our enemies.
It looks like selflessness & self-sacrifice.
It looks like humility.
It looks like gentleness.
It loves like Jesus.
God is not on the side of the people dropping bombs.
