Not so sure you can blame Schumer on this one

The sad reality is that it was an unwinnable battle for the Democrats. The public blamed the GOP but Trump didn’t care.

In the meantime Trump was willing to starve Americans and ruin the holidays

You can’t win against that

Will they?

Lots of indications that MAGA isn’t as strong a force as it was as its members become disillusioned with the policies of Trump

You allowed the corruption of your Supreme Court

You decided the law didn’t matter when appointing justices, that party purity was the most important qualification

you have arrogant left (for the US) politicians and judges who refuse to step down when age and illness become issues

You -> USA

They do know, why do you think they want you to refinance

I’m skeptical

I don’t see how they get the bandwidth they need for data transfer for one

It sounds more like they couldn’t get funding for their autonomous robot space building dream so someone brainstormed adding AI to it to get the fools to part with their money

Sadly not unique to the US

Up here in Canada the “temporary” food banks from the 80s now serve 10% of the people living in Toronto

And not a peep from the government

But lots of talk of a nonsense tunnel to add capacity to major highway

It’s obvious and conspiracy theories don’t need to apply

Like any modern US company Microsoft measures success or failure based not on their financials but on their stock price

Pushing AI boosts their stock price

Just like their massive layoffs this year despite healthy profits

They are hoping he will last until the midterms

Then Vance gets 10 years without needing to ignore the law

Krugman did a post that covered

A bunch of hedge fund buddies unwisely invested in Argentina, the money gives them time to get their money back before they lose it all

Nice idea, but forgets the Supreme Court gave him immunity as President

The big difference wasn’t that there wasn’t junk but that Reaganomics was only starting so most people still had a high enough income to buy quality, albeit with some exceptions

Don’t forget the poor quality the Detroit 3 were building back then

Partially survivor bias

There was lots of cheap junk made back then (I once had an elevator technician show me the 1980s call button that was cheaply made to use a push in friction socket bulb so repeated use would cause the bulb to fall out)

Which is why we have arbitration

A third party decides what the new deal will be

Research has shown in Canada the arbitration process that essential workers are forced by law to use gets the union better results that the ability to strike does

Because in some areas the corporation is so big that is effectively a monopoly which means customers aka voters get held hostage

As much as I think unions (in general) can be good there is a difference to say a store with 4 competitors going on strike vs an airline where there is no alternative

The problem with the Beer Store is it is primarily owned by the 2 big breweries (molson coors 51%, AB InBev 45%) which means it doesn’t like to stock the more independent things

I don’t drink beer so can’t give a recommendation

Maybe forget the Beer Store and try the LCBO, most of which should have a walk in cold room with a selection of beers and generally knowledgeable staff

3) it riles up non MAGA people and so makes MAGA happy

Marketing is effective, particularly when it uses simple phrases that “seem correct “

Added bonus in this case as it creates a feedback loop.

More guns -> more shootings-> more guns -> more shootings…

We live in an era where food in the store has been abundant for so long that people no longer have any concept of how that food gets to the store

Most if not all of them at this point if asked would likely believe everything on a farm is now done by a machine, and that there is no manual labour

21.07.2025 20:05 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

In addition to your suggestions it is likely also brilliant marketing

They get to clear out warehouse space for the soon to start arriving Christmas stock while their physical competition doesn’t

No, the GOP response is “thoughts and prayers”

It’s the MAGA voters who say “how could the Democrats lets this happen” - see study on how GOP/MAGA voters don’t blame the GOP for hospitals closing

It would be nice in a way if it was money, but it’s not (only a couple are really doing that)

The sad reason for their inaction is they are afraid he will just ignore them and make them redundant and irrelevant if they rule against him

28.06.2025 13:12 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

I agree the Dems are their own worst enemy in many respects

But what exactly are you expecting from a guaranteed to fail attempt at impeachment?

All it will do is make him stronger as he further plays the victim card and the MAGA and GOP people rally around him

And if it’s anything like the alerts where I am the issue will be at least an hour away, up to 8 hours away, and thus usually of no relevance

18.06.2025 23:35 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

They know what it is

They are just delusional enough to think they will be part of the ruling side and thus get all the good jobs while Democrats and others suffer the bad jobs

As for web browsers, each tab is given a thread. So each tab/webpage performance is restricted by single core performance

10.06.2025 17:48 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

Try doing your own homework

Yes, Genshin was released on other platforms. But it is also well known that multi-platform games are programmed around the lowest platform they support. Hence Genshin is artificially restricted to 60fps

10.06.2025 17:47 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

As for playing Genshin, that doesn’t make a desktop calibre cpu given that game is a phone game

Better tests would be word processors, editors, web browsers, etc

09.06.2025 17:08 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

And the sad reality is most program tasks really aren’t parallel friendly, hence why single core performance is still the most important thing on the desktop

(There are a small subset of things that are embarrassingly parallel as it’s called, and they are things that have been offloaded to GPUs)

09.06.2025 17:05 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

Yes, very hard. And if done incorrectly you can actually end up with a slower program

Not a programmer/compiler issue but rather is gets complicated very quickly with race conditions and data corruption
