Today we celebrated the official launch of BRIGHT, a research program funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation at DTU. Many had to join online due to the snow, but luckily our Minister for Higher Education and Science, @christinaegelund.bsky.social was able to join along with many others πŸ’š

The lesson of history is that tyrants cannot be appeased.

Appeasement only feeds their insatiable hunger for power.

Tyrants prey on people who feel unsafe and vulnerable.

But without mass submission, a tyrant is powerless.

Remember this.

Anger in Iceland over incoming US ambassador’s β€˜52nd state’ joke Thousands sign petition calling on Iceland’s foreign minister to reject Trump ally Billy Long’s nomination

I would suggest that it was completely deliberate, and that he actually referred to Iceland in that section of his speech. They are starting to make 'joke' comments about taking it over, which is also how it somewhat started with Greenland. Next up, Norway?

This line graph illustrates the percentage change in agency staff levels from the previous year for nine major U.S. federal scientific and health organizations between the fiscal years 2016 and 2025. The agencies tracked include the CDC, Department of Energy, EPA, FDA, NASA, NIH, NIST, NOAA, and NSF. For the majority of the timeline between 2016 and 2023, the agencies show relatively stable fluctuations, generally staying within a range of +5% to -5% change per year. However, there is a dramatic and uniform plummet starting in the 2024–25 period. Every agency depicted shows a sharp downward trajectory, with staffing losses ranging from approximately -15% to over -25%. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) shows the most significant decline, dropping to roughly -26%, while the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) shows the least severe but still substantial drop at approximately -15%.

This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again.

Even the many sweet republicans I have met in e.g. Texas, Utah, and Montana are still my friends and not my 'enemies', right?

I would really wish, that even more senators and house members on both sides (and maybe in particular republicans) would speak up about this πŸ’”

As a Dane, having met a lot of wonderful Americans during my years of travelling there, it is hard to even comprehend the thought of possibly being at some level of 'war' with them. I mean, they are my friends, right?

We have cloned several of this size for replicative (low copy) in gram negative but integrative in gram positives. The homolog arms and double antibiotic resistance cassettes makes them quite big though. Might be worth considering integrase mediated genome integrations for these purposes.

Harvard today, your institution tomorrow.

It's all part of the Project 2025 plan to destroy high education in America.

All leading US universities depend on federal funding and tuition dollars from international students. They severely curtailed the former. Now they're eliminating the latter.
