It took me 11! sittings over two weeks to finish this ~200 pg book so you know I had some trouble with this one. This is probably a great discussion book. I need to process more, but I am left with the impression that it's not communicating its message particularly effectively.

I picked this book up for the first time at least 3-4 years ago and stopped partway but was recently inspired to revisit it. As someone uninterested in management, it's still a useful view into the role and purpose of a good one, and talks about what teams/people need to succeed.

The cover page of water moon has an attempt to write water moon in katakana. One of the repeated characters is horizontal instead of vertical like it should be.

This is literally the cover page and I sent it to my friend with the text: tell me you know nothing about Japanese without telling me you know nothing about Japanese.

And she set her whole freaking world in it.

My first book of 2026! I hated how hard the author tried to make a fantasy Japan with a limited vocabulary. The subtle wrongness distracted me the whole time. It's a shame, because she was trying to evoke a magical Spirited Away-like adventure and there were cool elements.

I've been reading a lot of romance lately to see if I can find something I like. I enjoyed that this one was more light-hearted, but maybe it was also so light-hearted that the stakes never really felt meaningful?
