I agree. It's terrifying stuff. We already see what the result is when a large section of the population only tunes into FOX. Imagine if every station did the same thing? Not everyone has the time, knowledge or inclination to seek out independent sources that are not televised.

Things were tight for quite awhile. We didn't remodel until kids were gone and 30 years later we are still in that modest home, debt free approaching retirement. I can't imagine if we had bought what the banks told us we *could*.

You don't not have to depend on loan officers to tell you what you can or can't afford. Years ago, when we were in the market for a home, I figured out what we could afford by using real numbers. I have no doubt we could have qualified for more but I knew what we could actually pay.

It's kind of like sex ed in that regard. No one thinks the "government" (schools) should teach it but what happens when the parents aren't knowledgeable or responsible enough to set a good example? We all end up paying for that failure.

When Ive suggested such, I get told that that kind of thing is the responsibility of the parents not the schools.
