Yes! I think it's driven by the soil emissions parametrization that's sensitive to sunlight, but there also could be some higher uptake of Hg0 by vegetation during daytime when the stomata are open. Either way, it's a nice flickering light π

Had some hourly simulation output, so had to play with making some animations! Here's half a year of our WACCM model showing mercury concentrations at the surface. Hard to stop watching those air currents, even if they're blocky at 200 km x 250 km resolution...

Role of the stratosphere in the global mercury cycle
The stratosphere facilitates the processing and global dispersion of mercury from polluted source regions to remote environments.
New study out on the role of the stratosphere in the global mercury cycle. A substantial amount of mercury is oxidized in the lower stratosphere, the layer of the atmosphere above ~10 km, with distinct processes from the troposphere.

Marine emissions of methanethiol increase aerosol cooling in the Southern Ocean
Methanethiol is a significant contributor to global ocean sulfur emissions and to sulfate aerosol cooling over the Southern Ocean.
Our latest paper gives the first estimation of the effect of methanethiol on the global radiative budget. Ocean sulphur is not all about DMS!
