I feel like we sort of collectively under-reacted to a US state revoking the IDs of an entire class of people overnight.
That is literal nazi shit

Group chats can be the bane of my existence, but I do appreciate that my family has separate threads for discussing bird-watching, what people are having for dinner, the various weather forecasts across the country, and who's watching what and where.
Just wait until you're happy with it, start sending queries, and then re-read it every time before you send a query just to make sure you still like it. Wracks up another 30 reads easy π
I LOVE Sangu Mandanna! OKAY yay! Fate's Thread and Violet Thistlewaite sound fantastic
Omg love that book! Starless Sea is hands down my favorite book ever, though
I've just DNF'ed 3 books in a row and my feelings are hurt.
#BookSky, anyone got anything magical and fun that doesn't deal with tons of war, grief, or gore?
That's so interesting (and depressing) to hear! I don't know how anyone can look at the shitshow we have and think it's a good idea. I know everyone's favorite pushback is the wait times, but we pay a ton of money and still have to wait months and months for some appointments.
I really love hearing about places where healthcare works. Gives me faith! Not in the states, no no, but that there are places that treat humans like humans and not just fodder for shareholder value π€ͺ
I have one of those "cooling" pillows, which is amazing until it's time to go to sleep and I've forgotten it will feel like an ice pack has been sitting on my pillow for hours. Nice pre-sleep jumpscare!
when you win a small concession you just get to keep yelling btw. one time a local official said to me "you people are never happy" and like: correct! it is not our job to be happy with compromise! it's our job to be annoying forever actually
Well they did say they'd follow their "Id"
A kid just asked if there were any #Sports in my novel and I had the giddy excitement to reveal, that yes, there are sports, if you consider fighting with knives and croquet sticks as sport.
Felt like the grandpa in the Princess Bride.

Girls be like, "I needed this" and it's just shoving their face in a pile of pillows and screaming because the world is beyond insane.

A cartoon of an Unprecedented Times Permission Slip, granting the bearer leave to opt out from the obligations of the world use to the overwhelming realities of genocide, slavery, oligarchy, climate disaster, the death of empathy, and general awfulness.
I found this in my (brief, unwise) travels on another social media platform today. If it might come in handy for you, keep it in your pocket to pull out on days that threaten to take more gentleness from us than we can spare.
Currently imagining living in a world where we didnβt have concerns like βhow many war-criming companies can I avoid today, and how many have I been tricked into using despite my best effortsβ and also βhow badly will this company scam meβ (because itβs always at least a LITTLE scammy).
*Everything in my bookshelf lololol
The world is a fucking shitshow and a half π
Slide 1: a blue graphic with an outline of the United States. Red and white text reads: Call. National Book Banning Bill Proposed in US House of Reps. Tell your rep: Vote no on H.R. 7661.
Slide 2: a blue and red graphic with white text that reads: House Republicans have introduced a bill to effectively grant the federal government decision-making power over what books make it into the library. Misleadingly called the "Stop the Sexualization of Children Act, " H.R. 7661 is a national-level book banning bill that would ban any book that, according to the bill's language, "(ii) involves gender dysphoria or transgenderism. " This means any book about a trans person or the trans experience would be banned from every public school in the United States.
Slide 3: a blue and red graphic with white text that reads: The bill has been referred to the House Committee on Education and Workforce. If you are represented by one of the members of this committee listed below, they need to hear from you. Rep. Kevin Kiley, California (CA-3) (Chair) - entering vulnerable election cycle Rep. Mary E. Miller, Illinois (Vice Chair) Rep. Glenn "GT" Thompson, Pennsylvania Rep. Burgess Owens, Utah Rep. Michael A. Rulli, Ohio Rep. James C. Moylan, Guam - entering vulnerable election cycle Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, Pennsylvania - entering vulnerable election cycle Rep. Mark Harris, North Carolina Rep. Mark B. Messmer, Indiana Rep. Suzanne Bonamici, Oregon, Ranking Member Rep. Jahana Hayes, Connecticut Rep. Summer L. Lee, Pennsylvania Rep. John W. Mannion, New York Rep. Frederica S. Wilson, Florida Rep. Alma S. Adams, North Carolina Rep. Adelita Grijalva, Arizona
Slide 4: a blue graphic with red and white text that reads: If you are represented by the congresspeople listed above: Call your reps. Tell them they must oppose this bill at every turn. It is egregiously unconstitutional, targets ideas based on ideological disapproval, and misleads parents and the public about the content of children's books. It does nothing to protect kids and will badly harm education. It will tie school material funding into knots and hurt anyone who is a library materials vendor, regardless of content. If you are a bookseller, librarian, or author, tell them your livelihood depends on the next generation of readers.
Urgent message from @authorsabb.bsky.social. Call your reps to voice your opposition to the proposed nationwide book banning bill H.R. 7661.
I'm in such a reading slump, but I just picked up @authorbkborison.bsky.social 's "And Now, Back to You" and I know it's just going to fix everything.

I finally saw how much I ground my back teeth down and when I told my dentist she said, "I know, but I didn't want to stress you out more."
And now back to our regularly scheduled posting of: I Leave My Glasses in Dumb Places
Featuring: A quest for soap, a shelf, and the incomprehensible belief that if I place my glasses in this spot briefly, surely I will remember and come back for them

HAHAHAHAAHA
NO.
"EXPERIENCE WRITING...NOT REQUIRED"
In a world of crashing literacy rates, media illiteracy, loss of critical thinking, loss of compassion, loss of ethics and morals... What we totally need are more "books" written in 2 weeks by AI

And sometimes you get the codes they're gonna run on your blood, but they're not the standard codes that billing departments need, so you have to sit on the phone searching for each code equivalent to then get the cost estimate to then see that the tests being ordered probably won't be covered
Lol yes yes! I do think I'm more comfortable with pen
Thoughts on pen-name vs. real name? Still vaguely concerned with the wilds of the internet

me to my therapist:
Yes!! Ugh... I'm so sick of it
I know! I'm really baffled by it and the way people get so defensive over their usage! Like "I just used it to send this really boring email." Cool story, you wasted a bottle of water and drove up an electric bill so you could have a different way of saying "here's the slide deck."
Exactly! And if it's truly bugging you, there's probably a Reddit thread with people having the same frustrations β at least that's a community.
I usually power through! I really don't like leaving a book unfinished π but I have been told life is too short to suffer through books I don't enjoy
It's truly terrifying seeing all the studies about how it drastically reduces brain function
If anything they need to read MORE just so they can learn to think critically again. Or even to fathom that they can make decisions without a bot
