They used this building on Beverly and Gardner as the Peach Pit in the newer version of 90210. I drove or walked by it every day so would see them filming. One day while driving by, they weren’t actively filming and I saw Tristan Wilds. I leaned out the window and yelled “yo Omar’s coming.” He liked that so he smiled and waved. I don’t usually take pictures within the city, but the last one seemed to be liked so here goes. I’ll be back to mountains, rivers and oceans soon enough I suppose.

I've been wondering if part of it is, they see Putin wanting to reclaim Soviet territory, and they think that's a precursor to the return of a communist USSR.

Sort of like how fundamentalist Christians support Israel because they think it's part of a magic spell to bring Jesus back.

Yes, coming from a more anarchist informed background I never bought the USSR as terribly leftist (Stalin onward at least) but at least it was nominally communist back then!

To be clear I don't think China is meaningfully communist either anymore--they have the second most billionaires in the world!--but they still nominally claim it and there are some features you could twist into a leftist view. But Putin's Russia is rather purely right wing.

A related thing I've noticed is we're far enough removed from the fall of the USSR that people no longer feel the need to grapple with the way the USSR undermined leftist movements around the world or the effects of the Sino-Soviet split. Used to be a pretty common topic in lefty circles.
