How do we have self-driving cars but nothing that will fold my laundry for me?
Querying has been rough on my writing journey and my ego. Who likes to be told βthanks but no thanksβ over and over again? π«
But today, I wrote 700+ words for a new WIP. Itβs a small start but a start, nonetheless. Feeling hopeful and excited.

I know it's not the most helpful piece of advice but it's one that has been given to me for the last few months while querying; keep going! I'm with you in that each rejection is a little punch to the gut but a lot of people have told me to try to look it as a step towards your 'YES!'
2024 was a great year for me. I finished writing my first book in May, began working with an editor for the first time in June, and started my querying journey in September. I can't wait to see what 2025 brings my way!

6,500?!? WOW! I'm always amazed by the work literary agents do but seeing the numbers will never not shock me. Congratulations on a great year!
I Need a Book Rec:.
Needs to be:
π Contemp Romance
π Secrets
π Suspense/Thriller
But not:
π« Dark Romance
Bonus points for:
π He Falls First
π Twisty Plot Twists
π Intense Attraction
π Unreliable Narrator
My favorite one from this year has been Jar of Hearts by Jennifer Hillier. Definitely some darker elements but I donβt think Iβd classify as dark romance.
Thereβs five chapters of one sitting in your submissions inboxβ¦ ππ
But in all seriousness, some Iβve enjoyed over the last year or two: The Family Game by Steadman, The Wife Between Us by Hendricks & Pekkanen, The Couple Next Door by Lapena, and All the Dangerous Things by Willingham.
STAY POSITIVE!
I live for these updates as a querying author. Hopeful that one day, Iβll find my Cathie hype agent.
But also, youβre killing me by adding books that donβt exist yet to my already incredibly long TBR.
#WritingCommunity - What are some of your writing or reading goals before the end of the year?
A rejection but it gives me hope that Iβm not crazy β₯οΈ
#writingcommunity - hypothetically speaking, if someone were to receive a contract offer from a publisher, should they let agents with pending submissions and queries know of this offer?
I'm reading that Mark Zuckerberg is genuinely spooked by the rapid growth of Bluesky. Sounds pretty good.
An #agentsguide for BENEATH YOUR LIES, my debut romantic suspense.
A womanβs discovery of her husbandβs infidelity leads her into a dangerous affair with a mysterious hitman, igniting a tale of passion, betrayal, and dark secrets in the heart of a city plagued by unsettling murders.

Not me eagerly reading this with my romantic suspense manuscript sitting in your submissions π I hope you love it and it satisfies your craving for suspenseful stories you canβt put down.
I suppose I should do an intro since I'm new around here.
Hi, new & old friends! I'm Brittany, an author who is querying my debut romantic suspense novel. When I'm not writing, I'm being a data nerd in my daytime role, reading all the books, drinking red wine, and spending time with my family.
#WritingCommunity - For those with pen names, how did you come up with yours?
Always. I love a book that positively messes me up. I want to be kept awake because I can't stop my thoughts from racing.
@caseysharpwrites.bsky.social witches and writing? I do believe I've found my people. π
You were the first person I searched for when I switched over here!
Also, this deserves a permanent space on my profile.
Shew, I am happy to be rid of *you know what*. I deleted my account when a certain someone took ownership but then I rejoined earlier this year as I began querying my first novel. Happy to still connect with my #writingcommunity on Blue Sky!
