Yeah <3 feeling this too.
Is it possible to purchase prints of the animal movement posters? I love this one with the orangutans. Excellent work
Not to mention the uphill climb instructors face inviting students to write - when literally the first thing they see when they open a document is a "write for me" button. I don't know who to email about this but I'm pissed that I can't even look at a blank page before I write.
for these new features, apparently "When you use these features, relevant data is sent to Google in order to create AI experiences". Not like my native plant research is high security, but plenty of import controlled research, R&D, and FERPA-sensitive information happening in Google Docs here.
My university now by default prompts Gemini use in GSuite. When you open a Google Doc, instead of a blank page you see two buttons: "Generate document" and "Help me write". I toggled this off in my individual account settings but it didn't seem to do anything and I still see the buttons. Also,
Wow this is lovely and luminous!! It makes me want to be a little green snake in some grapes.
Yikes!! Glad it's cleared up... sounds like a trial.
Keep Minnesota Housed! Much of the media has left, but ICE is still in Minnesota and hundreds of families need help with rent in order to avoid eviction. Visit keepMNhoused.com to adopt a rent or donate to rent funds! #keepMNhoused Drawing by Trung Le Nguyen features a bundled up boy holding a sign reading "Thank you!" in front of a cozy purple house.
Hey, friends! @ziibiing.com and the awesome folks at StandWithMinnesota have launched #keepMNhoused! Check out keepMNhoused.com and kick in to help folks affected by ICE stay in their homes!
ALSO, artists, please join the call for art to help spread the word!

People in my neighborhood need help, like so many others in Minnesota right now. I can vouch for this GFM - I was in the room when it was planned! I just gave $200. Can someone match me?

These relatively smaller funds are not getting the attention they need even though they are supporting tons of families.
I know we can pay every rent.
Great point! A lot of orgs with structured volunteer opportunities meet during working hours here - but it's also possible to set up something new/asynchronous. As a teenager I was part of a volunteer org that put fruit trees in public spaces and tended them - this is possible in lots of places
I have been lucky at some points to have rental situations that really allowed me to have a lot of engagement with gardening, compost management, etc. but in my experience that's outside the norm.
I think renting is so restrictive for many people (especially in urban/suburban areas) that folks who are interested in ecology, gardening, permaculture end up just aiming for landownership (other factors at play too ofc) - but I think there have to be options here broader than "get my own land"
I am definitely interested in suggestions about this! Some of the common options like community gardens, container gardening are not options for my current living situation, but I want to hear what creative things people do - either individually or systemically - to be involved as non-landowners
It's tough as a tenant to ration out how much capital you have for this kind of thing - will it make it harder to advocate for getting your water heater fixed, if you are too squeaky of a wheel will they choose not to renew your lease, etc.
Yeah - I don't have much contact with landlord/property management and also there is just not much greenspace at my place - a tiny patch that they mow to dirt (and they like it that way).
It's a little weird working professionally in the native plant gardening space but renting with no gardening ability. So much of my job's outreach work is focused towards landowners re: planting and invasive spp. management. I wish I had more ideas of how tenants fit into the convo, as one myself.
Are you an relatively new to field ecology and data collection? Or are are you supervising students? Our guide for effective field data collection is now published in @methodsinecoevol.bsky.social! We also include a printable poster with a visual overview of the guide

I love this book but it is pretty brutal towards the end. I was surprised to learn recently that the Arecibo Telescope/Observatory where the story begins has been shut down in recent years.
I remember being sooo mad in early college being told to use/learn R for a stats course, because I wasn't going to be a statistician and so I would never use it again and it was a waste of time. π.... I use R every single day. Didn't email the professor at least though thank god
These are incredible!
I don't know, but I think a lot of people are really hoping that police (or domestic military) will protect us physically from ICE and be armed/equipped enough to do so (even though it's not happening). More pleasant than thinking about many militarized groups on the same side and it's not yours π¬
A relative of mine works in an ER in MN and had a patient who hesitated to bring in her toddler because of ICE violence in the area, and the child died due to the delayed care. It is so horrible and heartbreaking. That poor mother.

I haven't noticed this at my grocery store, which is largely imported produce, but my local CSA had some smaller produce due to climate/disease factors this year. Some of the biggest beets I've ever seen in my life, though.
"Low-lift national targets are mostly public-facing companies with relatively small ICE contracts that are set to expire soon, making them particularly vulnerable to consumer and employee pressure."
