Technology changes
The way mean girls with curls
Create their dramatic
And hateful exchanges
They still clutch their faux pearls
Lie from Salem attic
Reputations destroyed
Families divided
Lives physically ended
By these witches devoid
Of character guided
To make themselves splendid
Light accuses shadows
of staying aloof,
hiding from life—
a claim the shadows
strongly refute
in truth
they provide space—
a place where
secrets come
to breathe
in the safety
of darkness,
time spent
with all
that's denied—
the things
that light
can never admit.

I have also found that the idea of talent prevents us from continuing on things we're not immediately good at
I have feelings about skill that's worked for being dismissed as talent one is born with.

Started reading this interesting #poetry collection about witches by Fiona Benson
She does a great job playing with historical sources and basing her poetry on real beliefs
Its also intensely concerned with the persecution of #women, and expresses its points eloquently. I really enjoy it so far

When the
houselights dim—
the moment
a border closes
between my life
& a brand new story
a liminal zone
crossed over
I'm immersed
in a sensory swirl
of sound & colour,
of characters & lives
not my own
& when those lights
rise again
I’m reborn
sent back
into the world—
renewed,
refreshed,
reset.

Tilted window,
a breath of light
still sour with dawn
birdsong drifts in,
small and bright
the small joy,
the little weight
that pins me to the day

Our moon Selene,
that mysterious sphere—
she shows us
what she chooses
playing her cards—
a waxing or
a waning hand
but some she keeps
tucked up her sleeve,
never revealed

it’s the sun
that tells me
what you hide
earth,
moon
both of us
clear in its light
you keep giving me
the same safe face,
