The oceanic physical injection pump of organic carbon - Nature Communications
Ocean mixing and advection play a key role in exporting organic carbon to the deep ocean, with year-to-year variations strongly influenced by El Niรฑo and Southern Ocean dynamics
Our data-driven analysis quantifies the organic carbon export driven by upper-ocean mixing and 3D advection. Vertical diffusion and intertwined biological production and mixing dominate net export. Interannual-variability is linked to water-mass formation dynamics.

Our data-driven stochastic model reveals the upper ocean's response to global warming. After accounting for internal climate modes, surface warming appears >60% faster, accompanied by a profound restructuring of the seascape. K-means clustering identifies the drivers of observed chlorophyll-a trend.
