Beautiful new direct imaging of the exoplanet Eps Ind Ab with the #JWST MIRI coronagraphs by Elisabeth Matthews of @mpi-astro.bsky.social et al - confirming previous detection of ammonia in its atmosphere, and suggesting the presence of water ice clouds. Great work! 🔭 arxiv.org/abs/2603.08780

Some things have gotten better and some things have gotten worse but when I was a child the media ended a man's political career because he misspelled "potato."

Awesome! I'm hoping to be on DB in a few hours, so I'll be looking forward to the Wi-Fi upgrade. Normally I just download a bunch of stuff I can work on offline for the train (reviews, marking, coding, etc.)

And yeah, I hear the UK used to be great lol 😭

Serious question: does the Wi-Fi actually work on European trains?! I'm the UK, you can usually connect to the network, but the quality is basically unusable

Kesha | Glasgow OVO Hydro | Wed 11 March

I can't go because I got invited to a Gaia DR4 confab at RINGBERG, which I decided is only just barely more exciting than seeing Kesha (new album is GREAT)

Fast timescale astronomy gets all the glory these days, but I’ll continue to argue that the really interesting stuff right now is years to decades.

With news of promotions being withheld another year at the University of Edinburgh, I checked out of curiosity, and yep, the pay scale for Assistant Professor starts *below* the NHFP stipend.

Hired on a postdoc salary (big pay cut) with a promise of promotion in 2020 and still waiting...

I used to think this, but I've come to believe that every generation will eventually turn into something awful. Maybe not in the same way as before, but it's not just going to magically be better when they're older. Is this doomer mentality? Am I the doomer?
