I stole this from someone who didn’t use alt text.

Alt text: a polymarket tweet that says β€œBREAKING: Anthropic CEO says Claude may or may not have gained consciousness, as the model has begun showing symptoms of anxiety.”

Key difference is open primaries imo. In the US, if you don't like your democratic candidate, you can stand to replace them. No such choice in the uk

"iS tHeRe a tEcHnoLoGY tHe leFt Is eXcItEd aBoUt" yeah, renewable energy, mRNA vaccines. Lots of cool stuff like that! Probably not the one whose main promise was cutting payrolls

sort of unrelated to this point, though not entirely: the fact that there's such a thing as professors of rare moths etc is one of humanity's crowning achievements to date and this is what the right wants to take away from you

Your policy is to make people from abroad litter pick for free to "earn" the right to stay in the communities they live in.

I'm hearing that the frog has never been so furious as he is with the scorpion for stinging him as he carried him across the river.

UK drops target for international student recruitment Government to encourage education providers to open campuses overseas as it focuses on reducing migration

In any other context, requiring a high-productivity sector to offshore the production of its highest value-added exports would be seen as the economic illiteracy it so obviously is...

"They killed my wife. I don't know what to do," the woman says through sobs in the footage, with a damaged SUV visible in the distance behind her. "We stopped to videotape, and they shot her in the head," the woman cries.
"We have a six-year-old at school," she says, almost unable to breathe, as a chaotic scene in which federal officers prevented at least one doctor who was on the scene from assisting the shot victim unfolds. "We're new here," the distraught woman says in despair.

You and your wife drop your 6-year-old off at school. You just moved here. You see ICE terrorizing your new neighbors. You film them, as is your legal right. Your wife complies with orders. She is then shot in the head. You still have to pick up your child later today.

This could be you.

The argument for a wealth tax is to contain wealth inequality, not to raise revenue. Either he's not read his opponents' arguments, or he has and he's being totally disingenuous.

Pleased to discover that slightly misnaming the national chess championship you won as a school child is a much more serious offence than repeatedly racially abusing your fellow pupils and telling them they should go to the gas chamber

Additionally, I don't understand why the professor is taking responsibility. When I was a TA ultimately the professor either backed me or (on rare occasions) agreed to revise the grade, but it was their responsibility.

The key thing is getting the grading criteria right. What was egregious from an academic point of view about the essay was that it didn't demonstrate any knowledge of psychology or cite any facts. If that had been in the criteria, she would be protected.

Yeah if you have any academic standards at all, this is a fail. At college level, you don't get to just "think" things. You have to have a reason for it. It's what makes academic work different to just "having an opinion".

Then President Trump had him murdered.

Remembering talking to a Chilean refugee who had finally been able to visit Chile after decades in UK. "It was nice, but it is a different country now." She had put down roots in the UK and raised a family. Her life was, and is, here. This is the human reality that Mahmood and Labour want to destroy

Cutting PIP in order to increase labour supply amongst disabled people makes no sense because PIP doesn't come with work restrictions and isn't means-tested.

Either the chancellor doesn't know that (unlikely) or she doesn't want to admit that she wants to cut PIP to save money.

The case for tax rises is stronger & clearer than Reeves pretends. It's that, given our lack of productive capacity, we have an inflation problem, which means that the alternative to tax rises is either infeasible cuts in public spending or higher mortgage rates.

A scorpion wanted to cross a river but couldn’t swim. He asked a frog for a ride. The frog said, β€œYou’ll sting me.” The scorpion replied, β€œIf I sting you, we both drown.” The frog thought, He wouldn’t sabotage himself. So he agreed.
