FWIW I actually really like community sports, sports with friends, casual sports. I just really donβt like the professional stuff because capitalism ruins everything.

While I aggressively do not care about sports, itβs sorta nice when sports is all the trending topics because it means that evil is doing its thing in a routine-ish way at this exact moment and I donβt need to gather cope for something new just yet. I can keep coping with the usual stuff.
i've gotten quite a bit more done, but only added 1100 words to the count so far. i am doing something really weird (extended edition of a book that is already really long) and progress isn't just words anymore, but rearranging, rewriting, weaving things together in new ways
In the same universe: ANOTHER GREAT FANTASY BOOK, except disaster bisexual polycule on an adventure.

I'm not comfortable speculating about hypotheticals, but there are also the extreme energy demands of AI to consider.
Well, itβs all trained off of material where consent was not given, so the whole model is bad.
But there are also some cases where authors writing with AI have been found to have entire lines from other books in their novels. I recall a case with quotes from Ian Fleming and Cormac McCarty for ex
There's a NYT version of this going around that says "OBVIOUSLY you don't think AI is slop" if you can't detect what's synthetic and what isn't, but I would love to assure those fucks that a fine stolen/scrambled sentence is still very much slop in its slop context.
I dislike the tests about how people feel about AI-generated prose vs normal prose.
1) Synthetic prose is still stealing from humans; good chains of words are often directly lifted from text.
2) It's easy to synthesize good sentences in isolation. Bigger ideas/structure are the value of writing.
Thank yooouuu
I did my first half-hour sprint in the morning today, instead of feeling angsty about it all day and rushing something out at night. i'm such a grownup with great mental health.
I can totally imagine this happening. Security is no substitute for a community that knows each other, and who lives where, and we don't really foster that kind of community around here?
It's funny because I'm literally going by on a cross street. I'm not even on the same street as this house! And it yells at me!
this is exactly what's happening here
"oh no someone might steal my $900 costco tv that everyone else on the street has. i will BUILD A MOAT."
we shan't bother discussing how many of these houses have an absurd number of guns inside of them. self-defense against fearfulness. as if domestic violence is not a vastly greater risk out here than any crime, violent or property, and having guns escalates the stakes of a nasty domestic.
children leave their bicycles and whatnot in unlocked piles all over the place. nobody touches them. once i left a kids' scooter on the street, and neighborhood kids borrowed it a while, then gave it back, like checking it out from a library
ring cameras everywhere. motion-activated lights.
we could literally leave every single door and window flung open on our house all day, all night, every day and night, and (assuming my pets didn't escape) the worst thing that might happen is visits from wildlife.
NOTHING HAPPENS HERE.
HELLO. YOU ARE BEING RECORDED.
i seriously think the only crime i EVER hear occurring here is domestic violence, and your "HELLO. YOU ARE CURRENTLY BEING RECORDED." getting shouted at people zipping past on scooters & bikes is not going to help with that one.
ig we get some minor graffiti from bored kids too, but dgaf about that
one of the weirdest things about living in an affluent suburb distant from any kind of economic diversity is the extreme paranoia that persists.
i often ride by this one house that shouts: "HELLO. YOU ARE CURRENTLY BEING RECORDED." every single time i pass - and not even nearby, like 30 feet back
The clinic we are attending has also undergone federal investigations. They still are. They are stubbornly sticking it out, carefully keeping well within current legal lines. Most places have not been able to do this. We are not sure how long these folks will.
I am helping someone get trans healthcare rn, and we have to drive to a different state for it. 4-5 hours away.
It's not even that there are any state- or city-level laws against trans people where I am. It's that most clinics have shut down preemptively, or bc of federal investigations.
Rightfully so
Fuck yeah

Agree. I donβt worry myself about being a good critic, frankly, but I do criticize a lot, and I mostly focus on wildly loving everything that tickles my id
Which is why my letterboxd review skews heavily toward 5*
think of how much we could accomplish if we minded our own fucking business and took care of ourselves
also, wild idea, what if we DID NOT terrorize the planet and allowed nations to work through their stuff without interference?
do they wanna see how thinly they can stretch their corrupted intelligence and military assets across geographically divergent theaters? cuz every time i do this in civilization, i get curb stomped, and i'm probably better at civilization than they are
I feel like my brain's ability to Do Things is so utterly broken, I literally need a babysitter to just sit nearby and squirt me with a squirt bottle if I don't work
There was one piece on prison healthcare that showed an older gentleman dying alone of a heart attack and it utterly ruined me
