WOW!

Rakhi Pancholi pulled zero punches in her response to Smith’s address last night!

“Cut the bullshit and call an election!”

"Schmökern" is a German verb that means to leisurely browse through books, often with a sense of enjoyment or without a specific goal. It reflects the casual and pleasurable act of reading, exploring books without a strict focus, and immersing oneself in the content for the joy of it.

My goals for the new year are to continue being a lifelong learner, to read and enjoy books that are interesting to me, to find my new place in the book world, and to keep going to live music to feed my soul. Happy New Year and see you all in 2026 🎉

Merry Christmas to all my friends who celebrate! I stopped celebrating Christmas years ago because it simply wasn’t worth the stress for me so I went to bed at 7 last night, enjoyed a solid 11 hours in bed, and look forward to a day of sloth. Hope you all find joy in whatever you are doing ❤️

I don’t think I am done in the publishing industry as books have been my passion and lifeline all my life, but for now I am welcoming a break and a chance to just read a book for fun. And I welcome the time to rediscover my own creativity and the chance to see where my next success might happen. 4/4

I think a lot about how we as a culture have turned "forever" into the only acceptable definition of success.
Like... if you open a coffee shop and run it for a while and it makes you happy but then stuff gets too expensive and stressful and you want to do something else so you close it, it's a "failed" business. If you write a book or two, then decide that you don't actually want to keep doing that, you're a
"failed" writer. If you marry someone, and that marriage is good for a while, and then stops working and you get divorced, it's a "failed" marriage.
The only acceptable "win condition" is "you keep doing that thing forever". A friendship that lasts for a few years but then its time is done and you move on is considered less valuable or not a "real" friendship. A hobby that you do for a while and then are done with is a "phase" - or, alternatively, a "pity" that you don't do that thing any more. A fandom is "dying" because people have had a lot of fun with it but are now moving on to other things.
I just think that something can be good, and also end, and that thing was still good. And it's okay to be sad that it ended, too. But the idea that anything that ends is automatically less than this hypothetical eternal state of success... I don't think that's doing us any good at all.

I am sad to announce that I am stepping away from agenting for personal reasons. It was an intensely difficult decision involving a lot of crying but in my heart I know it is the right decision for myself and my clients. 1/4

Very bookish metal head here. I work in publishing. Love spec fic, horror, mysteries, thrillers, occasionally a delightful romcom, sometimes a literary masterpiece, and sometimes nonfiction - reading, like music choices, are highly mood dependent

Incidentally, since almost all the physical books from major publishers in the US are printed in China, that probably just increased the price by 50%, which massively lowers sales and means publishers will do much smaller print runs.

Thank you for this! As a Canadian working in publishing, I’m worried about publishing, worried about more stringent censorship, and worried that certain millionaires that own large publishers will want their companies to lean into right wing beliefs, oligarchy, and autocracy. I’m a huge worry wart🥴
