This ad was also received at my residence. Ironic that Virginia Republicans are so liberal compared to the states where conservative Republicans have all the political power.

The abhorrent actions leaders will morally justify as the price to pay for utopia.

I just finished Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn
The Gulag Archipelago, 1918-1956: An Experiment in Literary Investigation the abridged version. My mother gave this to me for my birthday. Great selection. Itβs almost more of a philosophy book.

Fairfax is the highest population jurisdiction in the Commonwealth. They have a massive operation to meet deadlines. We are smaller and able to print and assemble our ballot packages so they mail Monday before our Friday open.
Guys, we hit ~1% turnout today.
82 in person
26 by-mail/drop box cast
108 total voters today.
I did not expect triple digits.
Happy Friday!
#Vote
lol, hit double digits by 10am.
10 by 10.
We wonβt beat Arlington in total turnout but will we in %?

Obvious solution is for Congress, meaning Republicans joining Democrats, in passing bi-partisan national independent redistricting commissions to eliminate extreme gerrymandering.
Cue Vince Vaughn Curb Your Enthusiasm: Freddy's New Girlfriend scene.
Opened our doors to two voters at 8 am and already 10 by-mail ballots back in the drop box. Early voting is on and we are already a dozen deep for the special election.
Seeing several walk-in voters hoping to vote today. Tomorrow (Friday) you can vote in-person. We already have 2 ballots back from our mail out earlier this week. Wonder how many we get tomorrow. Do we hit double digits?
It gives me no delight to say that pro-hand count people are idiots. Hand counts can make sense in specific low population precincts esp in a parliamentary system. But itβs really stupid for most of America.
Key takeaways: school is too expensive to waste 4 to 6 years going into debt. The question we need to ask: what lifestyle do you want to have when you grow up?Seriously read it.

Book cover for Paris 1919 Six Months That Changed the World By Margaret MacMillan
I finished Paris 1919: Six Months That Changed the World By Margaret MacMillan. This came recommended by a well read election colleague. My understanding esp of modern European and Middle East borders alone was worth reading this. Very detailed. Recommend.

A picture of 3 boxes of ballots
A picture outside City Hall as it snows.
I need to write a song called Ballots in the Snow! We have delivered nearly 1000 ballots for nearly 10% of our voters to the post office for the April 21st special election. Early voting begins Friday March 6.
So it immediately skipped to the front of the line and I absolutely consumed it. Very important American history that we should all know and understand.

Are avid readers. She said she sent this book in particular to several of our past Virginia Governors. I was intrigued and right then and there she bought me a copy.

Itβs amazing how often her work is cited in our culture. Itβs really about time I understand that reference in more than just an abstract way.
Usually propaganda has a negative connotation, especially regarding WW II, but there is positive and necessary propaganda and this was one such work. Worth your time if youβre a WW II literature fan.

So she thought sheβd get me a Steinbeck I hadnβt read yet. The Moon Is Down is such an interesting work because it is propaganda and Steinbeck wrote it to help the allies win WW II.

Book cover for The Moon Is Down by John Steinbeck
I finished The Moon Is Down by John Steinbeck. My family celebrates Christmas Eve by giving everyone a book to open. This is on the books I received from my wife. She knows that one of the very first books I read that brought me emotion was Steinbeckβs Of Mice and Men.

I saw that! So spouse and I are going to start with The Secret of Chimneys to get into the character first, then Seven Dials, then watch.
Having never read Christie before I researched her most popular work. No surprise, itβs really good. So now I will be adding her books to my queue.

Book cover for And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
I finished And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie.
When I saw a new Glass Onion movie was coming out I got curious about its development. Essentially Rian Johnson wanted to make an Agatha Christie murder mystery for a modern age.

Several voters showed up today to vote early in the April 21st Special Election to temporarily amend the VA Constitution regarding redistricting. We are week away from the start of early voting. Either request your by-mail ballot and we'll get that out on Mon/Tues, or see you next Friday, March 6.
Book cover for The Colorado Kid by Stephen King
I finished Stephen Kingβs The Colorado Kid. I saw it in a used book store and it was thin enough that I thought my 15 year old could read it (rather than audiobook). The cover is a bit risquΓ© but thatβs King, right? Well, spoiler alert: cover has nothing to do with the story. Good tho.
