Premature babies are given sucrose for pain relief – but new research shows it doesn’t stop long-term impacts on development Preterm babies receive up to 16 painful procedures every day. Pain in early life has been linked to altered brain development and poorer cognitive outcomes.

Preterm babies receive painful procedures every day while they are cared for in a neonatal intensive care unit. They are usually give sucrose for acute pain relief, but that doesn't prevent long-term effects of pain very early in life theconversation.com/premature-ba...

Healthy Teen Video Viewing Guide | Parent Resources | APA Evidence-based strategies to help parents navigate teen video consumption. Learn how to promote healthy viewing habits and have productive conversations.

I like this advice from the American Psychological Association because (a) it's practical (b) advocates for adults to approach teen online activity with a spirit of curiosity not criticism, and (c) adopts a skills-learning perspective rather than restricting online access.

Sarah Woolnough, CEO of The King’s Fund, with a quote about NHS services improvements on a purple and gray background.

The text reads:
‘Today’s announcement lands on the same day that NHS stats show people continue to wait days in A&E and many patients remain stuck in hospital beds despite being well enough to leave. The most important question is how will the abolition of NHS England make it easier for people to get a GP appointment, shorten waits for planned care and improve people’s health? That hasn’t yet been set out – ministers will need to explain how the prize will be worth the price.

‘Having now made the decision to abolish NHS England, & while we still wait for the publication of the NHS 10 year plan, the government must be clear why this significant structural change at this time is necessary, & how it fits into their wider plans.' Screen grab from lancet article encouraging investment in early childhood

Good to see The Next 1000 days (2-5 years) getting attention, to consolidate gains children make in the First 1000 days (conception to 2)

This new article from the Lancet estimates the cost of not investing before 5 years is 8-19 times higher in later costs!

Oh Michael, sending best wishes. It saddens me that you’re exhausted, but more so that self blame is the instinctive reaction. A common &human reaction when working in such systems,so thanks for voicing it, but I hope you can find self compassion & reconnect with the reasons u prayed for this career.
