Boxy skull of a pareiasaur with big eyes and nostrils; looking slightly down at it from the front/side.
Pareiasaur skull in side view, nose to the left. Can really see the βcheekβ projecting downward: namesake for the clade.
This #FossilFriday letβs drop below the Permian-Triassic boundary, before the mass extinction. This stem-reptile is a pareiasaur: one of the largest reptiles of the Permian.
This specimen is from #Zambia and was one of the best fossils I found as a new grad student on my first trip in 2011.

Where did our lost rhinos roam?
Distribution charts based on bone finds (individual dots) and habitat suitability for the four fluffy rhinos of late Pleistocene.
