The next time you hear some politician blaming pearl mussels or the Habitats Directive for flooding disasters, might be a good time to point this out to to them.

Franzi Schimmer captured this Grizzly bear in Brooks Falls, Alaska just floating along, tippy-tapping down the river, browsing the salmon.

Prior to hibernation, up to 40% of a bear's body mass is fat, which is less dense than water (~0.9 g/cm^2), so the murder-monster is also a floaty-boaty.

Phillips "This is not a country where people get thrown in jail for things they say"

And well done to Zack for challenging Phillips smear that 'from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free' is antisemitic

Unfortunately with not-so-sleepy Eamon Ryan gone, extending and developing these great LocalLink services has stopped.

Eamon Ryan - like all Green Party TDs in Govt - achieved more in 4 years than many ministers achieve in 10 years.

Best Govt in years has been replaced by Worst Govt in years.

Unfortunately, I’d say that’s exactly what happened. But it shouldn’t even be up to residents to point out problems with drainage in the first place. The engineering team should be looking for these problems and then ensuring they are dealt with properly early on in the process.

I had a look at the council’s reports on this project. It seems residents raised the issue of drainage on this road and were assured the construction team would look at it. I agree that auditing after construction is inadequate (or perhaps completely absent).

The Debate: Should we introduce an air-travel tax to aid climate efforts? Is a levy on the aviation industry a necessary corrective or just another tax on consumers? An environmental campaigner debates Conor Pope

Conor Pope argues that an air-travel tax would be unfair.

We would like to remind him that the vast majority of people on Earth will never take a flight. It is a wealthy minority (read: us) who pollute, while others around the world bear the consequences.

So we ask: is that fair, Conor?

One of the very last things to go into the 2020 Programme for Government (at about 2 a.m. in the morning) was a commitment to triple Local Link passenger journeys. Huge push-back, we were told it was impossible to achieve.

By the time we left government, numbers were up x5.

If you build it.......

Woman, 80s, dies three years after Dublin attack A woman in her 80s who was attacked in south Dublin just over three years ago has passed away.

Marie McGowan, 89, has died 3 years after a brutal assault during which she was put headfirst into a rubbish bin. Her attacker, Alex Bailey, believed she was "a man dressed as a woman."

This is the world the transphobes are creating "to protect women."

RIP Marie. share.google/PFaI5YTh9tBw...

MM refusing to do anything on climate shows that he puts disproportionate weight on the opinions of lobbyists for data centers, car manufacturers, dairy, etc cause support for government action on climate change actually unites people across the country..so who is he talking about?

If we were a sane society we'd be rewetting boglands, marshes and swamps and rewilding uplands with all the urgency of an FG intern searching for something to use against Catherine Connolly. #speirgorm

The Irish Times criticised for “stoking hostility between road users” as people cycling killed in crashes reaches near-decade high The Irish Times has been criticised for publishing a letter which jokingly refers to an anti-cycling trope just as three people cycling lost their lives on Irish roads in one week. One campaign group, which criticised the letter, said it amounted to "stoking hostility between road users", and another outlined how it downplays the regular red light running by motorists.

No coincidence the very first thing he did is blame the Jews. This is literally straight out of the 1930s. Say political opponents are to blame for everything, claim only submission to the right's views will bring unity, and employ the full power of the State to implement it.

The German police brutally assault an Irish woman protesting against Israel's genocide.

The German state is a disgrace.

It committed genocide against the Jewish people - far from its only genocide.

It forced Palestinians to pay the price, viciously silencing anyone who objects

It would be useful (and show journalistic integrity) if said fossil fuel CEO was identified as such by @businesspost.bsky.social, when publishing such an illogical, biased tirade against green policies. Sadly, gone are the days this newspaper was known for its strong climate reporting.
