Does anyone else feel that in recent decades movies rarely depict average working people? In the 70s and 80s we had movies about struggling families, stories about people most of us could understand. Not necessarily about the struggle, but where it was an obvious factor.

Decades ago I proofread a Regency romance novel called Emily Goes to Exeter.

I did not know how much Barbra Streisand I consumed until I looked her up for something otherwise irrelevant to me. Felt terrible that the 'woman with the beautiful voice' in the songs I listened to was Someone. Really shifted my perspective a little.

I can't bring myself to represent war with a cool knight. It's horror. War is a bound child crowned with shrapnel, tied to a wounded horse that is being pulled forward by unseen people

For me, being grumpy about a lot of art in a specific niche looking very homogenous isn't really about me wanting to "own" a specific idea like a cat eating a fruit or something, but moreso that the merch niche tends to fall victim to inspo very obviously stemming only from other merch makers.
