I mean we are adding high density mixed residential/commercial right in the heart of the city at a rate that possibly exceeds demand (at the market price anyhow). Sure we are also adding suburbs, but they are master planned at a city scale, with local schools, retail, some employment potential.

Ha! Brain fart! I mention radionuclides because when people ask about fission thats generally their concern. Glacial regulatory constraints and capital costs are its most pragmatic problem at this point. Its an answer, but its not THE answer to climate change.
Indeed civil nuclear fusion can trivially quantifiably be proven to have emitted a fraction of the radionuclides that burning coal has, historically. But in the PNW we don’t need to build any further fission plants, we have abundant diverse renewables tapped and still untapped.
