Surgery intern year ✅! This has been a busy year but one that has left me with an appreciation for the role of surgery in multidiscplinary oncology care, and where I have grown as a physician. Onto rad onc this week!! ☢️💕👩🏻⚕️ #radonc

#Radonc representation on @NCCN Treatment Guideline Committees is <10%, even for committees that recommend #radiation.
Additionally, certain institutions have nominated relatively few ☢️👩⚕️ for their designated slots.
Glad to see this 📰 finally published.

Thank you to the amazing team that made this work possible! Finally, thank you to the women in medicine who inspire me and empower me to pursue a career in academic radiation oncology. 💕
We found that while there are more women in medicine than ever before, inequities in leadership attainment by women persist across all roles studied. These findings suggest that systems and organizational level changes are essential to recruit and retain diverse leaders in academic medicine.
What is the current state of gender inequity in institutional leadership roles at US academic medical centers?
Our systematic scoping review analyzed data from 94 articles between 2019-2022 focusing on deans, department chairs, division chiefs, and program directors.

Dr. Lin, a physician who is dedicated to addressing health disparities in lung cancer in non-smokers like himself, was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and decided to teach a course on humanity in medicine. A truly powerful story. #lcsm

Lung cancer screening saves lives.
This month on Thoracic Surgery I have seen many patients diagnosed with lung cancer when it’s still early stage on screening!
Criteria: age 50-80, current smoker or quit in past 15 years, >20 pack year smoking history. #cancerprevention

Hello from Kacey!
Can confirm this is true - and said feedback has significantly improved my work and scientific writing over time!
Overall, we must support family building starting at the trainee level through interventions such as adequate parental leave policies, on site free child care, and insurance coverage.
Thank you again to the team that made this work possible!
Our results highlight the substantial financial burdens incurred with some participants spending >$140,000. Of note, participants with insurance coverage for ART did incur significantly less costs.
What are the costs associated with family building in physicians and medical students?
Out today in @jama.com Network Open the latest chapter of the #SPACEStudy looks at costs associated with ART, Adoption, and Gestational Carriers in this sample.
