Thank you to my KCL War Studies colleagues, both US foreign policy experts, Charlie Laderman and Barbara Zanchetta for a really interesting (at least for me) discussion about the new Trump presidency and global security. Recorded about 10 days ago. soundcloud.com/warstudies/t...
If Putin manipulates Western leaders & persuades them to push Ukraine into a bad deal with Russia, it’s highly likely that his next step will be to test Article 5. Would Trump (& some others) would go to war if ‘little green men’ took over (for example) part of one of the Baltic states?
The Undeterred fight against disinformation – a conversation with Nina Jankowicz from the American Sunlight Project – Part 2
In November, @kaianisser and I had the privilege of talking to @ninajankowicz.com This is part 2 of an absolutely fascinating conversation. fojo.se/faktajouren/...
If the objectives are the same, even though the approach against us is different, then we should take the threat as seriously as the Ukrainians. This is not a war as people might imagine the 20th-century scenario, but it is incredibly serious and will only get worse.
This delineation can distract us from assessing the holistic threat. To my mind, Moscow would quite happily implement the same aim against the UK and other countries as against Ukraine: the destruction of the state.
"Russians going feral" - it's time someone said it, though it's about a decade or more too late.
One thing that increasingly concerns me is how various terms - "war", "hybrid war", "low-intensity war", "disinformation" - can lead us to focus on definitions and delineate types of hostile activity >
Hallo Berlin!

As the Holodomor is researched more and more, new facts become available that not only prove further that Holodomor was genocide, but also amend the common narrative about unfortunate Ukrainian victims of Stalin’s madness.
In fact, Stalin did this because he feared Ukrainians and their movement
Once again, though - it is for the Ukrainians and for them alone to decide how to defend themselves, not for us.
However, one thing to note is that putin is possibly changing his focus to threatening grotesque retribution on Ukrainian civilians as a way of pressuring Kyiv/partner capitals/populations in Europe. His meeting with defence ministry officials tonight seems to support that.
I am a massive fan of @ruthdeyermond.bsky.social's thoughts and this thread is well worth reading, though I am still thinking through some points, especially on russia's cultural-political readiness to level extreme violence.
russia's hideous attack on Dnipro shows the most cynical form of putin's attempts to manipulate us: if you "escalate", we'll take it out on innocent Ukrainians. It's inexcusable and awful. But in all this, it is up to the Ukrainians as to how they respond. And we must help them with all they need.
As winter descends on Ukraine with the first snow blanketing Kyiv, Russia has intensified its assault on the country’s power infrastructure.
Video or I don't believe you.
Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova takes a call during a news conference, audible over live mics, in which she is instructed not to mention Russia’s ICBM strike on the Ukrainian city of Dnipro. Source: t.me/uniannet/151...

It's crucial to remember that this latest war by russia on Ukraine has been going on for over a decade. It's vital to remember the enslaved people of Donbas and Crimea, not to normalise their occupation, and slide to the temptation that they can be easily handed over to moscow.

On the 1000th day, I re-read texts by Sofia Andrukhovych & Olena Stiazhkina that I translated for London Review of Books in the first days. I'm struck by their humanity. Reading the western intellectuals in the same issue, I'm reminded why I cancelled my subscription. www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v4...

I've read most of them, but there are a couple there that I didn't know. Thank you!
I want Megadeth to be added to this list.
I write about the performative and violent nature of #Russian information manipulation, our vulnerability, and how this has led to Ukraine deaths, in my latest Substack.

Don't forget that the #Kremlin outrage over the #ATACMS decision is manufactured. It's designed to undermine support for Ukraine, to increase fears among European & American populations, and to clear the way for Trump to present himself as peacemaker. Do not be fooled.
Great list - thank you.
