It’s 1988 and The Dead Milkmen release their album Beelzebubba, featuring the song “Sri Lankan Sex Hotel” which references Jim Thompson’s The Killer Inside Me. I’m 16 at that point, probably a year away from being turned onto Thompson. Now, 38 years later, I catch the reference of the first time.
