Tutorial for drawing standing poses. Text: The Lean Standing up perfectly straight is just not a natural pose. Instead most people weather standing or mid action tend to lean. This means that the spine is not completely vertical, the hips are canted and the shoulders are also at an angle. In most poses the feet and hands are not at matching heights even when standing still.
Text: Contrapposto The Italian word for cool pose bro. Refers to the counter angles between the shoulders and hips when standing. How to do it: if the left shoulder is higher than the right then the right hip must be angled higher than the left hip, and of course reversed will be true.
Text: Tense vs Relaxed Applied contrapposto has to do with which limbs are weight baring. In general the side that is raised higher is tensed while holding the weight lf the body while the limb at the lower angle is relaxed. For example as shown: the straighter leg is being leaned on, while the right leg is lifted and bent, not carrying the weight. The arm holding up the parasol is bent but tensed and is lifted higher than the left arm which is loose at the side, relaxed. This gives you two things: a feeling of weight in regards to your character standing in space and also a visual dynamic contrast.
