Two weeks two PhD defenses from Tukel lab. Congratulations to Drs Kaitlyn Grando and Shingo Bessho. So proud with both of their accomplishments @kaiterwaul.bsky.social @besshoshingo.bsky.social
It’s happening!!!
Listened to some great talks, delivered a talk, received good feedback and spent good time with friends #ASMMicrobe. Time to say goodbye to LA
Just a few spots remaining for the GRC Salmonella Biology and Pathogenesis meeting to be held in August. The final program is now online. www.grc.org/salmonella-b...

Very cool article by science journalist Carrie Arnold reviewing recent research from leading laboratories on how the unique shape of a microbial #biofilm emerges from interactions of its component microbes with each other and their environment

Proud of my student Kaitlyn Grando @kaiterwaul.bsky.social Her work and accomplishments were featured in Katz news #Temple. medicine.temple.edu/news/2025/02...
Beautiful review by @abaumler discussing the factors that contribute to gut microbiota assembly
Very happy to be a part of this beautiful study led by Drs Maria Cimini and Raj Kishore showing a role for SAA3 amyloidosis after myocardial infarction (MI) and how SAA3 loaded exosomes can drive injury

We shot this interview on the grounds of the former J&L steel mill, where buildings including my lab are today. The threat to biomedical research in Pittsburgh is on par with the threat to the mills 50 years ago.

Studies show that funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) contributed to 354 of 356 drugs (99.4%) approved by the FDA from 2010 to 2019. Recklessly slashing NIH funding will mean that patients will be waiting much longer for life-saving treatments.
Thinking of you Helene🧿

"This is a moment to unite."
Threats to the NIH and our research infrastructure hit me twice- once as a scientist, and again as a patient whose next option will be a clinical trial. Remember that there are real people’s lives at stake.
